Introduction Results and Discussion

The nanoparticle of magnetite (Fe2+Fe3+2O4) presents magnetic properties

with applications in several areas such as chemistry, physics, medicine,
catalysis, functional magnetic resonance and environmental remediation.
Ricinoleic acid (12-hydroxy-9-cis-octadecenoic acid), which can be extracted
from castor oil. It is biocompatible and has wide application in the biomedical
areas, with analgesic and bactericidal actions. And Ricinoleic acid can be
converted to a macromolecular material.
In the reaction between the nanoparticle and ricinoleic acid, the acid
attaches to the surface of the magnetite and this allows it to become more
compatible with the human body and can thus be employed as a biomaterial
for, for example, drug delivery systems. Figure 1: FTIR spectra of ricinoleic acid (R.A), magnetite (Mag) and Composite (Comp).

Objective
To extract ricinoleic acid from natural castor oil and makes surface
modification on magnetite nanoparticles with poly (ricinoleic acid) in order to
modify its properties.

Conclusion
Ricinoleic acid, magnetite and composite was successfully synthesized as shown
