Consider the Key types of project management methodologies and briefly

explain their significant difference. Explain the conditions in which each
methodology is appropriate.
Answer
In project management there are a variety of approaches and methods that can be employee managing
different kind of project. All the types of project methodology can be conditionally divided in to
 Traditional approach and
 Modern approach
A traditional approach involves a series of consecutive stages in the project management process. It is step-
by-step sequence to design develop and deliver o product or service. It entail achieving the succession in the
implementation process and provided the benefit of mile stone based planning and team building. In IT and
software development this methodology type is Called waterfall one portion of work follows after another in
linear sequence.

The following stages are included the traditional project management methodology:
 Initiation
 planning and design
 execution
 control and integration
 closure(installation and maintenance)

Modern methodologies do not focus on linear processes but they provide an alternative look at project
management. Some of the method are best for it and software development while others can be implemented in
production, process improvement,product engineering, and so on.
Modern project management approaches use different models of the management process. The basic modern
approaches are:
 Agile methodology
 CPM methodology
 PMBOK methodology and
 PRINCE2 methodology

The difference between traditional approach and modern approach project

management methodology
No Traditional approach Modern approach
1. a series of consecutive stages in the project not focus on linear processes
management process.

2. In CPM Network diagram, identifying Link and Unlink tasks is crucial. In this
regard, write detail about Tasks-Link types (Finish- Start (FS), Finish- Finish(FF),
Start- Start (SS), and Start- Finish (SF))

3. Suppose you are a project consultant and want to determine the way in which
the parts of the project are organized and determine the time duration of the given
projects. In this regard, answer the following questions on the basis of the
information given in the table below.

Activity Predecessor Activity time (Weeks)

A None 5
B A 6
C A 4
D C 3
E B,C 1
F E 4
G D, F 14
H D, G 12
I H 3
Total 52

A. Construct the project network using Activity on Node (AON).

B. Determine the critical path and the project time duration
C. Determine the Earliest Start, Earliest Finish, Latest Start and Latest Finish
times

Answer
A.

B(6 E(1 F(4

) ) )
G(1
A(5 4)4
)*(( 444

C(4 H(12 I(3

D(3 )
) )) )’

B.
ABEFGHI =45
ACEFGHI =43
ACDGHI =41
ACDHI =27

The critical path is ABEFGHI which time duration is 45.

C.

EF=9 EF=11 EF=42 EF=45
LS=7 LS=13 LS=30 LS=42
LF=11 LF=16 LF=42 LF=45

ES is Earliest Start,
EF is Earliest Finish
LS is Latest Start and
LF is Latest Finish times
