What is diversity?

Talent is something you’re blessed with by chance,

Abilities? Some at birth and some you enhance.

While Skills and Competencies you have to learn

Your potential is unlimited, you will have churn.

In today’s class we started the discussion with the meaning of talent, abilities, skills
competencies, and potential. We learnt that Talent is something one is born with. Some abilities
too are acquired at birth but there are many abilities one can enhance in their lifetime. Both
physical and intellectual. Skills and competencies are something one has to advance at through
his learnings. Lastly, we all have an unlimited potential to achieve things, it is then up to us how
much we make out it. Most of us use our potential only to a limit. We must identify our
competencies, push ourselves to our highest potential and thus make it our asset. Having
discussed this, we went on to discover the different learning patterns people display. This began
with answering 70 questions based on whether it was applicable to each one of us in its
individual capacity, bucketing them under 7 headers and then assessing each one’s learning
styles. There are basically 7 learning styles people display: Kinesthetic Intelligence,
Interpersonal Intelligence, Intra-personal Intelligence, Logical Intelligence, Rhythmic
Intelligence, Linguistic Intelligence, and Spatial Intelligence.

I discovered that I scored high in 3 learning styles. Interpersonal, Verbal and Visual. Which
means that it is highly probable that I am someone who is good at understanding people and
communicating with them. I am also aware of my surroundings with a good memory of things I
see. Now that I know this I will leverage these skills of mine to enhance my learnings. On the
other hand I need to understand that everybody learns differently and I must encourage &
consider that.
