Removing the pump head and the piston guide:

• remove all connections to the pump head
• remove the cover for the pump head
• remove the screws 2*M4/20mm / Pzd 1*80
• remove the pump head cpl. from the housing
>replacing the radial seal, see OI, chapter 7
>replacing the ball valves, see OI, chapter 7
• remove the piston support for the 'back rinsing'
• remove the guide for the piston unit
• remove the screws 2*M3/6mm / Torx T10
• remove the screws slowly and turn by turn
>Attention: watch for spring

Removing the motor / belt / tachometer:
tachometer:
>Att.: always mark the positions of the mech. parts!
• remove the screws 4*M4/8mm / Pzd 1*80
from the holder of the motor
>the motor or the motor pulley can be replaced now
>Att.: the pulley for the motor is smaller then the
pulley for the Eccentric!
• remove the screws 3*M4/12mm / Torx T20
from the bottom, holding the Eccentric unit
• lift up the Eccentric unit
>the belt can be replaced now
>Att.: check the tension of the belt for refitting
>the hall sensor can be replaced now

Eccentric:
• remove the screws 3*M4/12mm / Torx T20
from the top cover of the Eccentric
>upper ball bearing from the Eccentric could be
replaced now with an extraction tool (if defective)
• remove all pump heads as described above
• remove the magnet disc for the hall sensor
• remove the pulley for the belt on the Eccentric
• pull of the pulley (watch for the distance from the
housing)
>the cpl. Eccentric incl. ball bearings can be
pushed out now

Note
This description is addressed to qualified service persons only. It is part of the Service Manual (SM)
and the Operating Instruction (OI). The warnings and descriptions therein must be respected. Before
maintaining C-601 please read chapter 7 of your OI, some maintenance steps are already described!
Remember: Pump C-601 can be run only with Pump Controller/Manager connected!

Attention
After the routine maintenance:
Only connect the C-601 to mains supply which is grounded properly! Otherwise the unit will not be
safe and C-601 may not work correctly! Make sure the mains voltage is 230VAC +/-15%!
Never run the pump without solvent connected for more then 3 min.!

Introduction
The following benefits result from a regular routine maintenance operation:
• the safety of operability of the unit is ensured
• faulty functions can be recognized at an early stage
• requirements set by quality management standards and regulations can be used efficiently

Maintenance Intervals
The routine maintenance operation should be carried out at least once a year. The maintenance
operation should be carried out before an OQ (Operational Qualification) is performed (except first
OQ). The maintenance operation should be carried out before a repair as far as possible.

Replacing parts
The service live of some parts are limited to a certain time and should be replaced after this time has
expired. The live time of these parts and all the replacement procedure are described in this Service
Manual! The disposal of parts is described in your OI, chapter 7!

Parts needed
Following parts should be ordered before performing a maintenance operation:
• 3* radial seal for the pump heads .
• 3* ball valve intake (inlet) for the pump heads .
• 3* ball valve delivery (outlet) for the pump heads .
• (see OI) replace all 3 seals always at once .

Tools needed
Following basic tools are needed:
• rag moistened with alcohol to clean housing
• basic electronic tools
• tools supplied with the pump: torx allen wrench T10 and T20, Turix wrench
and torx allen wrench T6 / Philips screwdrivers

Always:
• Cleaning / cleaning the tubing system with distilled water
• Piston 'back rinsing'
• Checking / changing the seals
• Checking / changing the valves
• Checking / changing the suction and the pressure tubing
• Checking the mains earth connections
• Housing and installation

After 3 years:
• clean: as described on the following page
• replace: as described on the following page

Cleaning / Cleaning the tubing system with distilled water

The cleaning is already described in your Operating Instruction, chapter 7!
It is advisable to do the cleaning with distilled water before starting to make a routine maintenance:
• connect a H20 tank filled with distilled water to the input of the C-601
• make a few 'simulations of pumping' to fill and clean all hoses with water
• Attention: Do not forget to connect correctly again at the end of the routine maintenance!

• check the earth connection of the mains input
• check the earth connection of the housing
• only connect the instrument to mains supply which is properly grounded!
• reassemble the unit

Caution:

The pump must not be operated longer than 3 minutes under dry conditions! For adjustments and

the pump must be operated under wet conditions! (suitable solvent or distilled water)

Note
This Test Instruction is addressed to qualified service persons only. It is part of the Service Manual
(SM) and the Operating Instruction (OI). The warnings and descriptions therein must be respected.
Before testing the instrument, please read chapter 3 of your OI. The Pump C-601 is not working
without the Pump Controller or the Pump Manager, the Pump C-605 is not working without the Pump
Manager. The SW Version of the Pump Controller can be checked on the display.

Attention
Only connect the instrument to mains supply which is grounded properly! Otherwise the unit will not
be safe and may not work correctly! Make sure the mains voltage is 230VAC +/-15%! Never run the
pump without solvent connected for more then 3 min.!

The controlling and calibration of the delivery rate is already described in your Operating Instruction.

Checking the pressure rate

• connect the C-601 / C-610 according to the Test Setup on page before
- use a filled column or similar for pressure build-up
- connect a manometer min. 10 bar
- use distilled water for solvent

• switch on / start the pump

• adjust the flow to approx. 100 ml
• adjust the pressure to approx. 10 bar
> pressure rate can be measured now with the manometer
> leaks can be checked while pressure is rising
• switch off pump

Test result - 'Function test'  OK  NOK

Note:
This is only a test for the Pump used as a 'stand-alone' unit including the Controller!
Other components from the Büchi Sepacore System should be connected for a complete test!
