A Recipe for Disaster: The Impact of COVID-19 on Food Safety and the Food Industry Introduction: The rampant widespread of COVID-19 had caused sudden turbulence in all nations and areas across the globe. Its fleeting emergence even resulted to emergency actions and subsequent risks in the scope of public health and food safety. It even affected the food industry and ended at significantly downsized consumption and disrupted supply chains. Background Information: Based on Food Standards, there's no evidence that COVID-19 is transmitted through food and maintaining good hygiene practices is highly recommended. On the other hand, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that one of the main ways of spreading the virus is through interaction with contaminated surfaces. Therefore, as we combat this unprecedented pandemic it is essential to observe safety protocols and precautionary measures. Alternatives: Significant deviations in the current approach are being considered by diverting to alternative sourcing location and increased focus on inventory management. For example, a grocery have seen a massive demand for disinfectants leaving many shelves empty and in the end, products are also on scarce due to panic buying and hoarding. Restaurant and other food providers face changes resulting to social distancing and poor income. In the long run employees will be forced to quit working due to social constraints and current problem. Proposed Solution/Strategy: Practical steps, including contingency plans for supply chain disruptions, and supporting food safety continuity amidst pandemic. Channeled alternatives and plans should be worthwhile and dynamic so that even though we're facing this serious scenario no one will be left behind and out handed. Recommendations: In order to attain the given solution, unity amidst social constraints is being recommended. Also, stringent practices of quarantine protocols and safety guidelines should be administered. And, steps and plans should be realistic so that it will be useful in the long run.
