CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the objective of this experiment was to produce the performance curve
of heat pump over a range of a source and delivery temperatures. A heat pump is a device
that absorbs heat from a waste source or surroundings to produce valuable heat on a higher
temperature level than that of the heat source. Basically, it pass the thermal energy in the
opposite path of spontaneous heat transfer, absorbing heat from a cold area and releasing it
to a hotter one. The experiment was carried out on the start-up procedures where all the unit
and all the instruments were in a proper condition. The water flowrate was set to 80±0.5 %
(4.0 LPM) and the refrigerant compressor and evaporator fan were switched on. Lastly the
computer was on and the unit was ready for experiment when the temperature and the
pressure were constant based on the trend in the application. The experiment was started
when the temperature and pressure are constant. The experiment was repeated with
reducing the cooling water flowrate in order to increase the outlet temperature TT6, by 3±0.5
°C. Based on graph for Coefficient of Performance (COP) vs Cooling Water Output one of
the element that could be observed was the heat output from the test. The trend was a
consistent increase for test 1, 2 and 3 and make a sudden decrease could be observed at
test 4 and then it increased back at trial 5. The sudden decreased occurred due to a drastic
flowrate decrease it maybe occurred because of inaccurate temperature setting done by
experimenters and it also caused a significant increase in the compressor work input. Next,
based on graph for Heat Output vs Cooling water output it can be seen that the same trend
also occurred where the trend was a consistent increase for test 1, 2 and 3 and make a
sudden decrease and increase back at the last trial. For the last graph, Compressor Power
Input vs Cooling Water Output the trend of the graph can be seen where the value for
compressor power input were decreasing, increasing, decreasing and increase rapidly at the
end of the trial, this occurred because the compressor used more power to increase the
pressure and temperature in order to increase the heat transfer. Some error might occur in
this experiment that will affect the result such as the presence of air bubble inside the tube
and the pressure and temperature are not at constant value before the start at the
experiment. Overall, for this experiment, the objective of the experiment, to produce the
performance curve of heat pump over a range of a source and delivery temperatures was
considered as achieved
DISCUSSION

There are some recommendation and suggestion that can be done in the experiment
to reduce the possible error to its minimum. First, make sure there are no air bubbles in the
tubes by opening the water source at its maximum and then observe until there are no air
bubbles in the tubes. Second, wait until all the 6 lines becomes a straight line. It might takes
around 60 minutes or longer but it will produce a more accurate result as the temperature
and pressure are constant before the start of the experiment. Next, the experiment data
could be much more precise if the experiment could be conduct properly. The most crucial
part for every experiment is the equipment and apparatus used while testing the product It
needs to undergo proper schedule maintenance for every certain period of usage. Lastly,
always seek expert advice from the lecturer or technician in-charge for a proper guideline.
