FIRST PART
LEADER AMONG OF THE LEADERS

A LEADER OF HIS PEOPLE

He was a lawyer, anti-apartheid activist,


politician and South African
philanthropist.

He was the first black chief executive who


headed the Executive Power, and the first
to be elected by universal suffrage in his
country.
WHEN WAS BORN?

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18,


1918, in Mvezo, Sudàfrica, where his
father Henry Gadla Mandela was born in
Mvezo, Sudàfrica, and his mother Noqaphi
Nosekeni was born in Mvezo, too.
WHY HE IS FAMOUS?
He created the commission for truth and
reconciliation to investigate the human
rights violations committed in the years of
apartheid.

He is a leader who took control of the


experiences of his daily life, his leadership
was strengthened by values ​such as trust,
commitment, a sense of community,
solidarity with the most needy.

THE YOUNG MANDELA

THE YOUNG MANDELA

In 1930, when he was 12 years old, his


father died and the king of the Thembu
became his tutor and sent him to a
Methodist school. During his youth, he
liked sports, particularly boxing.

To finance his law studies at the


University of Witwatersrand, he served
in a series of small jobs and was
eventually hired by a white law firm In
college, Mandela met Olivert Tambo,
future fighting partner, as well as Walter
Sisulu, who became a mentor and opened
the doors of the African National
Congress (ANC), the black majority party
founded in 1911.
WHEN HE LIVE?

He lived in Mvezo located 53 km


southwest of Umtata, at that time part of
the Cape Province until 1939.

In 1940 he finally goes to live in


Johannesburg where he dies on
December 5, 2013.
SCHOOL AND COLLAGE
Mandela began his secondary education in
Engcobo at the Clarkebury Boarding Institute
whose system was Western education, apart from
being the largest school for black Africans in
Tembuland.

In 1937 he enrolled at Healdtown Comprehensive


School, a Methodist institution at Fort Beaufort.

He began his studies to obtain a B.A. at the


University of Fort Hare . There he studied English
Language, Anthropology, Politics, Administration
of Native Peoples and Roman Law-Dutch Law in
its first year.
FAMILY LIFE
Nelson Mandela met his first wife, Evelyn Mase in
August, 1942 and got married on October 5, 1944.

The first daughter of the couple was born in 1945,


and they bapthizer with the name of Madiba, then
in 1950, her second daughter Makgatho was born,
and finally in 1954, was born Pumla.

Nelson Mandela met his second wife, Winnie


Mandela in March, 1954, and got married on
June 14, 1958.

The first daughter of the couple was born in


1959, and they bapthizer with the name of Zeni,
then in 1960, her second daughter Makgatho,
was born.

Machel, in August, 1993, and got married
on July 18, 1998.

NELSON MANDELA : BECOMES PRESIDENT

With the general elections scheduled for


April 27, 1994, the ANC began its own
campaign, which opened 100 electoral
offices and hired the consultant Stanley
Greenberg The slogan of the party was "A
better life for all", although it was not
explained in detail how these proposals
would be carried out.

As expected, the ANC won by an


immense majority, winning 62% of the
votes The inauguration took place in
Pretoria on May 10, 1994, which was
aired to one billion viewers worldwide.
The event was attended by 4000 guests,
