DRESS CODE FOR PUPILS

MALES

The uniform for the male pupils from Grades one to Grade six is Navy blue short sleeve shirt, khaki

Short pants, black socks and black, white or brown boots/shoes.

FEMALES

The uniform for the female pupils from grades one to grade six is gold short sleeve shirt, brown uniform
with oval neck and an inverted pleat in front to be below knees, white socks and black, white or brown
boots/shoes.
DRESS CODE FOR TEACHERS

1. Teachers should dress tidily and modestly .Close fitting garments are not suited to or

Functional for teaching purposes. They may be a source of embarrassment to both male and

Female teachers.

2. T-Shirt and jerseys with slogans and pictures, etc. are not acceptable.

3. Slippers are not considered appropriate for school.

4. Dress should be functional.


HELENA PRIMARY SCHOOL

RULES

School rules are outlined as a guide for children and to have the least possible disruption of day to day
school life.

Teachers are advised to place these rules in classes and to read them occasionally with pupils.

1. Pupils must be properly dressed when attending school.

2. Pupils should attend school regularly and punctually.

3. Pupils should participate in all school activities suited for their level, for example, quiz and games.

4. Pupils should always show respect for National symbols.

5. Pupils must respect each other, elders, parents and teachers.

6. Written excuses from parents /guardians must be presented to class teacher to explain a child’s
absence.

7. Pupils should avoid defacing or destroying school property-buildings, furniture etc.

8. Pupils should avoid eating during instructional periods.

9. Stealing among pupils is prohibited.

10. Pupils should keep their exercise books and textbooks neatly papered and in good condition.

11. Pupils should speak properly at all times.

12. Boys should take off their hats or caps before entering the school building.

13. Pupils should always speak quietly.

14. Pupils should run and play in playground.


STAFF INDUCTION PLANS-DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

New members of staff are inducted in the school. They are given the Staff Manual to read.
They are enlightened about leave entitlement, dress code for teachers, etc.
Staff Development Sessions/Professional Development Meetings are done once monthly by
officials of the Education Office, members of the administrative staff and teachers who attend
workshops and seminars.
They are so designed to help teachers to function effectively within the school.
CODE OF CONDUCT OF TEACHERS
COMMITMENT TO THE PROFESSION

1. Conduct self in a reasonable manner in the development of Government policies affecting


Education.
2. Avoid doing things in private or public pursuits which will bring your profession to disrepute.
3. Keep in confidence, information that has been obtained in the course of professional service,
Unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
4. Offer advice and give helpful criticism as the need arises in this matter you have a special
Responsibility to teachers in training and junior colleagues.
5. Open confrontation of whatever nature must be avoided.
6. You should neither allow other employment to impair the effectiveness of your professional
service, nor permit commercial exploitation of your professional position.
7. Keep all records accurate and up to date.
8. All correspondence addressed to the Ministry of education should be channeled through the
Head of the school in the first place.
9. The meetings of deadlines must be given priority and all thoroughness in the preparation of
required documents is crucial.
10. Professional growth is absolute necessary and must be given priority.
11. Devote full working time to vocation, teaching effort and time on task are essential for
success
THE PREFECT SYSTEM

The Prefect System is intended to help in discipline in the school.


Each class has two prefects and there are two ‘Head Prefects’ who are responsible for all the
other prefects.

To ensure proper order of pupils at assembly and as they enter and leave the classroom.
2. To ensure that classes are arranged before assembly.
3. To assist in maintaining discipline in and out of class.
4. To supervise sanitation of school and compound.
5. To carry out any other duties as requested by
Class teacher.
THE HOUSE SYSTEM

There are three athletic houses in the school. These are: A House, B House and C House.
The pupils are divided among these houses for Athletic sports and any other competition within
the school for example Quiz and Spelling competitions among the classes.
