TEDTALK DRAFT

(Tabaco Apple Jey P.)

1 Good afternoon everyone I am Tabaco Apple Jey of BSE FILIPINO II thank you for giving me the chance to
talk to you this afternoon. 

Students who truly learned from school aren`t always those can solve mathematical equations quickly,
not even those who are also those who speak English fluently during recitations but ALSO those
2 students who knows honesty, those students who knows how to love, care and respect. Four things we
usually hear but for me are real definition of the word ‘educated’. Listeners, ladies and gentlemen again
I am Tabaco, Apple Jey and this is my aim as a teacher – to build students that are not only excellent in
academics but also shows excellent in character or simply students that are well-mannered.

To begin with, I will share to you how I ended up to a decision of choosing teaching as my profession.
When we are young, parents will always be asking “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I
answered them “I want to be a teacher” even at school, when teacher asked me to proceed in front and
tell my classmate about my ambition I say, “When I grow up I want to be a teacher..”. Maybe that time
these are only little dreams that somehow can be change. Maybe I just wanted to be a teacher because

3 the first time I start going to school I already see teachers but growing up, when I reached maturity or
stage where I can finally state reason why I chose a certain course, I was amazed that I still stick to my
childhood dream which is to become a teacher. I just don`t know.. whenever I see nurses, I imagine how
beautiful will I be when I wear their all white uniform, whenever I see police women, I can already
imagine how brave will I look when I wear that uniform but whenever I see teachers teaching children, I
see million reasons to be one. Enough to tell you why I wanted to be a a teacher because obviously I
wanted to be like them helping people reach their dreams and shape them to become good and better
individuls. Thank to my parents who support mein whatever I want to become.

I wanted to take this opportunity as well to tell everyone that teaching, being a teacher or even being
an education student isn`t easy. I still remember Bernard Shaw`s “Those who can, do. Those who can`t
teach” which made me nafeeling of disagreement. I know a lot of teachers who alraedy spent long
years in teaching but I can still hear them saying “Ayaw jud mo pag maestra kay kapoy..” Because a
journey to become and to be a teacher is tough and when one decided to become a teacher in the
4 future, he/she will think of how challenging the world he/she into. Teachers choose to teach not
beacause life is leaving them no choice, they choose to become a tecaher because they see passion in
teaching and however hard this will be, they know it`ll be worth it forn every efforts they give is a step
to students` brighter future. Teachers should not be only ‘a teacher” they must be an “effective teacher”
affecting or putting impact to students life and as an education student In order for me to become the
most effective teacher I can be, I must understand my belief in teaching.

I am more of an Essentialist kind of teacher. Listen carefully and later you will know why. Like what I
have tell you earlier, I am a kind of teacher that will build students that are excellent in academic and
shows excellent in character as as well. Like all teachers do, I want to make my students a good reader
who can connect new ideas into their previous knowledge, students who share their ideas to others,

5
students that are great solvers not only on numbers but also on real life problems, student who stand
for what they believe, students that are good writers where in as they write they can wisely use words
to express their selvees through and through BUT more than solving, reading, writing I will teach my
student the thing that makes up peace in the world “the manner”or good conduct—I will teach them to
be selfless, I will teach them respect, honesty, kindness, I will plant them a desire to help, be
compassionate, be students who love others like they love themselves because I believe after all it`s not
always about medals, certificates, ribbons and trophies but love for others and love for the self.

This may all sound impossible for now but for a student who dedicate half of her life learning and
training to soon become a professionnal teacher and a role model to her students, everything will be
impossible.

This what makes me an Essentialist teacher under Essentialism Philosophical Orienitations. I advocate
the mind with what is essential. My emphasis of education focused more on academic content for

6
students to learn reading, writing, arithmitic but most specialy the right conduct.

I based concept from Top Let Reviewer`s Youtube Channel entitled “Keywords to better understand the
Philosophies of Education” if you want to learn more about Philosophies of Education just visit the link
below https://youtu.be/2wYVrPPpzrQ It contains comprehensible explanation of the known
philosophies of education.

Thank you for listening. Hope I made you familiar with not only my name but my philosophical

7 orientation and hoping that you learn something from this talk. Now start questioning yourself “What
kind of teacher I am?” again I am Tabaco, Apple Jey your Essentialist teacher on the process
leaving you a qoute by Aristotole “ Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at
all” Stay home, thank you and good afternoon. 
