- Recent research states that ‘lessons that you schedule between 9am-11am are
less effective […] The research has exploded the myth that “academic lessons are
better in the morning.” It appears that KS4/5 students learn better late morning
early afternoon’. ‘Memory tests performed on Monkseaton pupils by
neuroscientist Russell Foster, chair of circadian neuroscience at Brasenose
College, Oxford, showed the students' brains worked better in the afternoon.’

placed more creative, practical lessons in the early morning timeslots.
- I have attempted to group together science/ statistic-based subjects on certain
days, and humanities subjects on others. My reasoning behind this experiment is
the idea that pupils will get in a certain ‘mindset’ appropriate to those subjects on
those days. By ‘mindset’ I mean subject specific terminology (jargon)/ pedagogy
and ways of thinking and working. It may encourage students to see links/
comparisons between these subjects in similar fields and draw links between their
topics and learning. It could help to further contextualise their learning, especially
if the subjects they are studying align their themes/ topics.
