Chapter 6: Philosophy of Education

Discussion Questions: Discuss the following questions with concrete evidence to support your argument.

1. “Teaching the heads and touching the hearts of the students are the work of the teachers in the
classrooms.” – Hor Youhan.
The role of the teachers only teach the students the skills and knowledge but also teach how to
behave in the society. An educated person refers to those who not only have high knowledge but
also have a good character of being a good human in the society.

2. What is philosophy of education?


Philosophy of education is a map, which shows how to achieve the goal of the life. For example,
I’m now a teacher of English. I believe that the best way to teach the students, teachers should
foster the students’ participation and involvement in learning process. The students learn best by
doing what they are doing. The lesson should be designed to maximize the student talking time
and active participation.

3. Why do we study philosophy of education?


The reason why we study philosophy of education is that there are many philosophy of education
and those philosophies teach the people how to be well behaved and achieve the goal of life
differently. Learners should do their best to understand them and be able to make use of them in
order to become a good and productive citizen for the society.
