Question 1

1. Atom 2. Molecule 3. Macromolecule 4. Organelle 5. Cell 6. Tissue 7. Organ 8. Organ system 9.

Organism 10. Population 11. Community 12. Ecosystem 13. Biome 14. Biosphere. Life starts to get
noticed in the cell, because a cell is the basic unit of life.

Question 2

Evolution explains the unity and diversity of life/ species, and provides a unifying principle for the history
and diversity of life on Earth. Diversity is explained as, all populations adapt to their varying habitats.
Unity is defined as living organisms sharing the same fundamental characteristics because they are
descended from a common ancestor. Evolution and diversity result from the interactions between
organisms and their environments and the consequences of these interactions over long periods of
time. Thus organisms continually adapt to their environments, and the diversity of environments that
exists, promotes diversity and unity of organisms adapted to them.

Question 3

A biology investigation starts with an observation. The scientific method has six basic steps: 1. Make an
observation 2. Ask a question 3. Form a hypothesis 4. Make a prediction based on the hypothesis 5. Test
the prediction 6. Iterate (use the results to make new hypothesis). When using the scientific method you
have to first make an observation. After your observation you ask yourself a question. Why is this not
working? Or why is this working? Then you propose a hypothesis (a hypothesis is a potential answer to
the question, one that can be tested). This doesn’t mean it is correct, it just means it could be right and
you can test it. After that you make a prediction (an outcome we’d expect to see if the hypothesis is
correct). The hypothesis is then tested by performing an experiment for this prediction. If the hypothesis
was proven then it is most likely correct, but if it didn’t work or the results didn’t match with your
assumption then the hypothesis is not supported and is most likely wrong. After the experiment
biologists use the results as a guide. If the hypothesis was supported they do additional tests to confirm
it. If it was not supported then they come up with new hypothesis and test them again.
