O’Donnell Media Summit has been revealed as “On the Frontline with the First Amendment.” The event will be a testament to the media professionals who have exercised their rights to freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Main panelists will convey their wisdom and expertise to students along with discussing recent events that have great impact on today’s media landscape. Mikayla Green, Co-Director of the event alongside Benjamin Grieco, says the panelists will discuss a number of major events that have occurred this year and their relationship to the media, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matters movement, and the 2020 Presidential Election. “With what has happened in 2020, we felt it was necessary to give equal attention to all three monumental situations. We hope this will not only help students who are communications majors but shed light to those outside of the media realm about what actually goes on behind the scenes.” Held virtually on October 28, this year’s Summit will a tribute to those who have with firsthand experience with the trials and tribulations of working in media the past year. The event will host a main panel of media professionals and several Oswego alumni in communication fields that will return to take part in the Career Connectors networking event. About the Dr. Lewis B. O’Donnell Media Summit The Media Summit was founded in 2005 by Lou Borrelli, ’77 and was co-sponsored by Al Roker ’76 in 2007, which was renamed in memory of their beloved professor, the late Dr. Lewis B. O’Donnell. Hosted by SUNY Oswego’s School of Communication, Media and the Arts each fall, this day-long event welcomes media professionals to campus for engaging conversations about timely, important topics facing media industries and media consumers.
