The development of the world makes the child's mindset also develop, what they see,
they easily imitate it. Currently kids in this modern area are already tainted with negative things
without their parents knowing. What they do outdoors, not necessarily their parents know.
Cigarettes become the easiest item to find, because the price is very cheap and can be
purchased as a piece, make the kids have no trouble to buying it because the price is relatively
cheap. The Indonesian government has often mentioned the adverse effects of smoking habits,
but in fact the number of active smokers continues to rise.
Data Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) 2018 shows smokers aged 10-18 increased from
7.2 percent in 2013 to 9.1 percent in 2018. That is, almost one in ten children in Indonesia has
started smoking. According to a team of researchers from Dian Nuswantoro University in
Semarang, Nurjanah, SKM, MKes, the increase in child smokers could be due to the large
number of cigarette ads scattered around the school.
The habit of smoking often makes a person have health problems, Example is lung cancer.
Not only that, being an active smoker can increase a person's risk of having a disorder in almost
all parts of the body, ranging from the heart, kidneys, blood vessels, reproductive health,
bones, brain, to lungs. What about the kids? What happens if a child smokes?
2. Tooth Decay
There are many impacts that can occur from this habit, ranging from infections, caries,
plaque, and to disturbances to gums.
The wise move of Dharmasraya district health office in cooperation with the Education
Office and teachers in these schools may be used as an example by other city and district
governments in Indonesia on how to socialize the dangers of smoking, in addition to certainly
through some other means such as through print or electronic media. We probably shouldn't
expect too many ads like this to be effective and have a deterrent effect on adults and active
smokers who have been smoking for years. Better now we prevent such dangers by equiping
our younger generation to care more about health and one of them is yes by socializing things
like the Health Office does in Dharmasraya Regency.
We assume that from 34 provinces consisting of 98 cities and 410 districts each city and
its district has at least 1 such appeal in each representative elementary school, then there will
be 508 baliho units that will be installed. If we estimate the cost of making billboards and
printing advertisements for one unit at a maximum of Rp.20 million then the Government
needs a cost of Rp.10.160.000.000. A considerable figure indeed, but it will certainly feel small if
we know the effect that we will get 5 to 10 years to come for our younger generation later.
