COVID-19: Identify problems & suggesting solution
Massive deaths, whole nation lockdown, the struggle of health workers, obsolete situation of global
industries, and bounded lifestyle illustrate how we are helpless to COVID-19. COVID-19, “which is a reason
for tiny SARS-CoV-2 is destroying the human civilization” (WHO). The world is tussling with an issue of
large scale and massive human impact, the pandemic of COVID-19. “COVID-19 is above all a humanitarian
crisis with severe health and socio-economic consequences”. There is a battle between human and invisible
enemy. We are devastated. Till September 17, 2020, we got 29.8 million cases, 939,000 deaths. According to
the WHO COVID-19 dashboard, the top 10 cities in the world with the most cumulative COVID-19 cases
are:1. Marion, Ohio — (35.97 cases per 1,000), 2. New York City area — (21.35 cases per 1,000), 3.
Gallup, N.M. — (18.49 cases per 1,000), 4. Grand Island, Neb. — (16.25 cases per 1,000), 5. Albany, Ga.
— (14.96 cases per 1,000), 6. Sioux City, Iowa — (14.38 cases per 1,000), 7. New Orleans — (13.30 cases
per 1,000), 8. Fairfield County, Conn. — (13.20 cases per 1,000), 9. Trenton-Princeton, N.J. — (13.14
cases per 1,000), 10. Pine Bluff, Ark. — (12.41 cases per 1,000).In Asia, The top 5 COVID-19 affected
countries are- 1. India(5,487,580 cases, 87,882 death), 2. Russia(1,105,048 cases, 19,420 death), 3.
Iran(425,481 cases, 24,478 deaths), 4. Bangladesh(350,621 cases, 4,979 deaths), 5. Saudi Arabia(330,246
cases, 4,512 deaths) .In these cities, many of them are also have taken place in positions of high mortality
rates. During the pandemic, we have introduced some new terms like lockdown, social distancing,
quarantine, isolation, endemic, pandemic, epidemic, etc. etc. Endemic means the baseline, or expected,
level of the disease in the community—meaning it always exists, like the common cold and flu, which are
usually at low, predictable rates. Epidemic means a sudden increase in the number of cases of a disease,
above what is typically expected in a particular area. COVID-19 is thought to have reached epidemic
proportions in China in mid-January. Pandemic means an epidemic that has spread over several countries
or continents, impacting many people. Pandemics typically happen when a new virus spreads easily among
people who—because the virus is new to them—have little or no pre-existing immunity to it. COVID-19, which
was declared a pandemic by the WHO in early March, is the first pandemic known to be caused by the
emergence of a new coronavirus. Lockdown means shutting down everything except emergency services and
stay home until the situation will become stable. Because of COVID-19, the whole had declared lockdown and
we are dealing with various problems. These problems are Healthcare problems, Social problems, Economy
problems. The Healthcare Problem has these symptoms: Disruption of the medical supply chain,
Requirement of high protection, Overloading of medical shops, High burden of the functioning of the
existing medical system, etc. Moreover, The Social Problem has these symptoms: The service sector is not
able to give proper service, Social distancing with our family & peer members, Undue stress among the
population. Furthermore, The Economy Problem has also some symptoms: Poor cash flow in the market,
Significant slowing down in the revenue growth, Losses in national & international business, Disrupt the
supply chain of products, etc.
So, we have figured out the problems and symptoms. It’s time to think about the solution. At first, we have tried
to maintain social distance. We thought that social distancing would be a good solution. Though many
countries have failed to maintain social distancing and many of them are struggling to maintain it. We have
also used quarantine(Restrict movement & contact of healthy people who have been unprotected form
SARS-CoV-2), isolation(keeping sick people separate form healthy people) system to reduce COVID-19
cases. But they do not show the expected result. I am giving a solution considering this things- 1. Cost, 2.
Knowledge of technology 3. Easy to apply 4. Harmful effect on the human body, 5. Opportunity for inventors &
others, 6. Population density, 6. The ability to apply any technology. My solution is, “to apply FAR-UV
rays(207-222nm) through gadget like bracelets, home appliances like a bulb or set up machines that emit
FAR-UV rays”. It means we can use FAR-UV rays through our daily life gadgets because it kills viruses. Now
I am showing you the SWOT analysis of my solution.

Figure 1: SWOT analysis of my solution

As I suggested a technology-based solution, there are also have some ethical dilemmas. But it depends on a
country’s/state’s policy, discipline, law, maintenance system, and people’s mentality of those
country’s/states. If we will get any ethical dilemma, we will solve it through an international committee or
creating an anti-dilemma organization. But I think my suggested idea doesn’t have any serious ethical
dilemma. Using my suggestion, a quarantine system can be improved. Applying my solution, any
country/state can return to a stable situation. They can start all productions, industries, companies, health-
sectors. My solution can also bring back the workers at their perspective workplace without fearing
about this pandemic. After that, the described problems will be solved. However, the pace of development
depends on the ability of a country/state. I have given a solution to reduce rates of COVID-19 cases,
fighting with the second wave and restart everything. Researchers say that it will be a long-term solution.
That means the idea of using FAR-UV rays will kill all viruses and it will prepare for any mutated viruses in the
future. Though we have still maintained quarantine, here I am giving some ideas to improve quarantine systems:
Use air ventilation machines, Keep enough number of health-workers, Use sanitizer, and if possible use a
computerized system that helps us to maintain quarantine rules. My solution to use FAR-UV rays can be
used in the farming sector which helps to grow crops quickly and it may help to prevent upcoming
predicted scarcity of food.
