Sooraj worked under the manager in various roles at a furniture company but was unsuccessful in each. He was let go from his filing clerk, accounts receivable, and customer complaint handling roles due to inadequate organization, careless bookkeeping, and making angry customers even angrier. Sooraj now asks the manager for a letter of recommendation for a sales role, but the manager declines as Sooraj was incompetent in prior roles and someone else would be a better candidate.

Email Assignment 2- Email delivering a Negative Message
Situation and background:
Sooraj Srivatsava, a young commerce graduate has worked for four months under your supervision (you are the Office Manager) at the head office of FurnitureForAll, a successful furniture and home accessory company with retail stores pan India. On the basis of what he told you he could do, you started him off as a filing clerk to handle the large amount of paperwork. However, his organization skills proved inadequate for the job, so you transferred him to logging in accounts receivable, where he performed almost adequately. Then he assured you that his “real strength” was customer relations, so you moved him to the complaint department. After he spent three weeks making angry customers even angrier, you were convinced that no place in your office was appropriate for his talents. Five weeks ago, you encouraged him to resign before being formally fired. Today’s e-mail brings a request from Sooraj, asking you to write a letter recommending him for a Sales Associate position at a reputed clothing retail store. You can’t assess Sooraj’s sales abilities, but you do know him to be an incompetent filing clerk, a careless bookkeeper, and an insensitive customer service representative. Someone else is more likely to deserve the sales job, so you decide that you have done enough favours for Sooraj for now and plan to refuse his request.
Your Task: Write an e-mail reply to Sooraj indicating that you have chosen not to write a letter of recommendation for him.
