BY LAWS

PREAMBLE

In the pursuit of alleviating the challenges the church members go through when bereaved,

The Church has established a welfare ministry to support its members financially, organizing

For the funerals and facilitating members and pastoral attendance. Since membership is by self-
election, the by- laws so established are to guide the operations of the ministry.

1.0 Membership and Scope

Membership is open to recognized church members of Tumaini Local Church and the benefits are
applicable to the nuclear family of the member. The nuclear family is defined as father, mother and
children.

1.1 The parents are so covered include the mother and father in law in the event the member is
married.
1.2 There is no limit to the children’s age.
1.3 If 2 people belonging to the same family are members, the benefits are extended once for the
benefit of the two, for instance, cash payout is done for only one since the event is one.
1.4 In the event of divorce or recognizable separation, the parents in law are non covered.

2.0 Current benefits to members


The benefits available to members relate to bereavement.
2.1 Financial Support as shall be determined from time to time.
2.2 Supporting funeral arrangements and lamentations.
2.3 Current financial support from the welfare is set at shs 50000

3.0 Contributions
Every member is required to contribute kshs 500.00 as deposit to be held in the account.
3.1 Contribution of a further shs 500.00 upon notification of death of any member or his/her
beneficiary.
3.2 Failure to contribute the shs 500.00 before the date of the burial shall attract shs 250.00
which shall be received together with the shs 500.00 contribution for that event.
3.3 If subsequently the defaulting member gets bereaved before clearing the balance of the
contribution and fine, the member shall be required to pay the shs
1,250 before he/she can access this support.
3.4 If a member has been active in the welfare and has no deposit and an eventuality of death
to him or his beneficiary occurs, the member will be fined shs 1000.
4.0 Cessation of membership
If one fails to contribute and does not pay up the default fines levied, he/she ceases to be a
member.
5.0 Rejoining the welfare
(a) If for whatever reason a former member is interested in joining the welfare, he/she will
be required to pay shs 2,000 for admission, being shs 500 and shs 1,500 for membership and
fine.
(b) Eligibility for rejoining will only apply if the applicant at the time of expressing the interest
to join has no case of death or in the consideration of the officials is not likely to encounter
bereavement in the near short term.
(C) If a person ceases to be a member and he/she is in the church premises. To rejoin the
welfare one will be required to pay up fines as per the constitution and he/she is also required to
wait for six months before he/she can access this support.
6.0 Administration and identification
For ease in administering the welfare and identifying its members, it is required that one has to be
a member of a home fellowship. Leaders of Home fellowship will be requested to confirm the
cases presented to the welfare committee.
7.0 Lamentations and funeral arrangements
The members are required to attend lamentations and funeral meetings as a critical support to
the bereaved.
8.0 Election of office bearers
The committee members shall be elected to office after every two years through secret ballot.
The patron of the welfare committee will be appointed patron in charge.
