Accessing Trouble Codes
Checking

Trouble  codes  can  be  displayed  with  an  LED  test  lamp  or  accessed  with  a  suitable  code  reader
connected to the data link connector (DLC) Image 1
Switch ignition OFF.
Connect  LED  tester  between  data  link  connector  (DLC)  terminal  FEN  and  battery  (12  volt)

Jump DLC terminals TEN and GND Image 2
Switch ignition ON.
Count LED flashes and compare with trouble code table

1. 1.2 second flashes indicate the ‘tens’ of the trouble code Image 3 [A]
2. 0.4 second flashes indicate the ‘units’ of the trouble code Image 3 [D]
3. A 1.6 second pause (MIL OFF) separates ‘TENS’ and ‘UNITS’ Image 3[C]
4. A 0.4 second pause (MIL OFF) separates each flash Image 3 [B]
5. A 4 second pause separates each trouble code Image 3 [E]
6. For example: Trouble code 22 displayed Image 3

Clearing Trouble Codes
Ensure ignition switched OFF
Disconnect battery ground lead
Depress the brake pedal for a minimum of 5 seconds
Reconnect battery ground lead
Connect LED tester between DLC terminal FEN and battery (12 volt) positive Image 2
Jump DLC terminal TEN and GND Image 2
Switch ignition ON.  Do not start engine.
Wait 6 seconds
Start engine
Allow engine to reach normal operating tempertature
Run engine at 2000 rpm for 3 minutes
Check that no trouble codes are displayed
Switch ignition OFF
Remove jump lead and LED tester
