SECTION - IV
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT (SCC)

The following articles shall supplement the Instructions to Bidders and General Conditions of
Contract (GCC Goods). In case any conflict between General Conditions of Contract and
Special Conditions of Contract, the latter shall prevail to the extent applicable.

1. Scope of Supply

The scope of supply shall be as given in Material Requisition and Technical


Specifications (Section-VI of Volume II).

2. Delivery Schedule

Indian Bidders : 13 Weeks (FOT site)

3. Payment Terms

The terms of payment shall be as follows:

- 90 % (Ninety percent) payment through bank against despatch documents.

- 10% (ten percent) within 30 (thirty) days after receipt and acceptance of
goods at site alongwith submission of complete as-built documentation and
manuals.

4. Price Reduction Schedule:

Clause 26.1.1 of GCC shall be appended with the words


“Including subsequent modification”

d) Confirm quoted prices will remain firm and fixed till complete
execution of the order. Fax of Intent (FOI), placed within
offer validity, shall be considered as ‘Notification of Award of
Contract’.

12 Spares (Article – 19 of GCC)

Confirm that 2 years Spares if required in Bid Document, has


been quoted on FOT Site basis and Freight charges have
also been indicated separately.
13 Freight Charges
Ensure & confirm that firm freight charges upto Site has
been quoted separately for each item.
14 Taxes & Duties

Indicate rate of Central or local sales tax (CST/LST)


whichever applicable, as quoted in price schedule
a) CST with Concession Form ‘C’
b) CST without concessional Form.
c) Local Sales tax (in case supplies are made from originating
state) without concessional form.

d) VAT

e) All taxes, duties, levies, License fee, etc., incurred until


delivery of the contracted goods, shall be borne and paid by
the bidder. However, Sales tax & Excise Duty on finished
products shall be reimbursed by the Purchaser. (limited to
provision in the quoted price as per bid document).

f) The statutory variation in taxes & duties (payable on


finished product) if any, within the contractual delivery
period shall be to the Owner account. Further, variation in
basic charge on Excise Duty within contractual delivery
schedule, shall be borne and paid by the Purchaser.
(However limited to provision in bid document).
f) Excise Duty
i) Indicate present rate of terminal excise duty (ED) applicable
on the supplies and as quoted in price schedule. In case, Bid
Document calls for Spares, (Mandatory/2 years) where,
generally more than one rate of ED are applicable then such
rates as considered in offer are to be indicated in the

ii) If there is any variation in Excise Duty at the time of


supplies for any reason, other than statutory, including
turnover, confirm the same will be borne by bidder.
iii) It is noted and confirmed that statutory variation in ED
within contractual delivery shall be to Purchaser’s account.
iv) If excise duty is presently not applicable, confirm whether
the same will be borne by bidder in case it becomes leviable
later.
v) In case (b) or (d) is not acceptable, advise maximum rate of
excise duty chargeable. (same shall be considered by
Purchaser for price evaluation & comparison).
15 Price Reduction Schedule:
a) Confirm acceptance of Price Reduction Schedule (PRS) as
per GCC
i) For delay in completion/ delivery beyond
contractually agreed delivery schedule as specified in
the Bid Document.
ii) For deficiency in performance & services as per
provision of Volume - II of tender document. The
invoice shall be submitted for the amount duly
reduced to the extent of PRS.

b) Confirm in case of delay in delivery beyond CDD, any new or


additional taxes and duties imposed after contractual
delivery shall be to Bidder's account.

16 Confirm acceptance of relevant Terms of Payment as


specified in the Bid Document.
a) It is noted and confirmed that deviations to 'Terms &
Conditions of Payment' shall lead to loading of prices or
rejection of offer, as Purchaser considers fit.
b) All the Deviation on 'Payment Terms & Conditions' have
been indicated in 'Exception & Deviation' format (including
annexure, if any) and have not been repeated in the
bid/offer.

It is confirmed that payment Terms & Conditions indicated


elsewhere including any Printed Terms & Conditions, shall
not be considered by Purchaser

17 Guarantee / Warrantee

Confirm that the GOODS shall be guaranteed against


defective materials/workmanship etc. for a period of 24
months from the last shipment or 12 months from the
commissioning date, whichever is earlier, as per
Guarantee/warrantee conditions of Bid Document.
18 Contract-cum-Performance BG.

Confirm that Contract-cum-Equipment-Performance Bank


Guarantee (CPBG) for 10% of order/contract value shall be
furnished as per provision of bid document, valid for 3
months beyond the expiry of Guarantee/Warranty period as
per terms of Bid Document.
19 Inspection (Article – 13 of GCC)
a) Confirm acceptance to inspection requirement as per Bid
Document.
b) As inspection & certification of all goods may also be
conducted by Purchaser /MECON. Confirm there shall be no
extra charges, since all personal & incidental expenses of
MECON/Owner’s Inspectors shall be borne by the Owner.
20 Part order
Confirm acceptance to PART ORDER. Incase of part
ordering any value of part ordering, charges if quoted
lumpsum and/or applicable to more than one item, shall be
prorated on value basis.
21 Repeat Order
Confirm acceptance of repeat order(s) upto 50% of contract
amount within 6 months from the date of basic order, as per
terms of Bid Document.
22 Quantity Variation
PURCHASER reserves the right at the time of award of
ORDER to increase or decrease by upto 15 % the quantity
of GOODS specified in the Material Requisition, without any
change in unit price or other terms and conditions. Variation
beyond this limit will be subject to mutual agreement
between the PURCHASER and the Seller.
23 Confirm that all Bank charges associated with Bidder’s Bank
shall be borne by Bidder.
24 Confirm that all document, as per Article – 10 of ITB, have
been enclosed.
25 Confirm that Purchaser reserves the right to make any
change in the terms & conditions of the Bid Document and

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 This specification alongwith data sheet other specifications & attachments to inquiry / order
describes and constitutes the minimum requirement for horizontal centrifugal pump and
their accessories / auxiliaries for use in the process & pipeline applications.

The intent of these requirements is to supplement the requirements as given in data sheets,
other specifications and other applicable codes / standards referred to in data sheet /
specifications.

1.2 Vendor shall make all possible efforts to comply strictly with the requirements of this
specification and other aforesaid specifications / attachments to inquiry / order.

In case any deviations are considered essential by vendor, same shall be separately listed
(with cross reference to Page No. / Section / Clause No. / Para etc. of the respective
document) in vendor's offer under section titled as "List of deviations / exceptions to the
inquiry document", duly supported with proper reasons for the deviation for GAIL/MECON
considerations. No cognizance shall be given to any deviation indicated elsewhere, but not
listed in the deviation list.

All such issues should be conveyed to GAIL / MECON in writing by the


perspective vendor prior / during the pre-bid conference, if any, before
submitting the final offer.

No deviation and exception from this specification shall be permitted without written
approval of GAIL / MECON.

1.3 Except as specified herein, the pump shall be designed, manufactured, tested and supplied
th
in accordance with API-610, 8 edition & onwards editions, data sheets, specifications and
applicable codes / standards (latest edition).

1.4 In the event of any conflict / contradiction / discrepancy / dispute between this specification,
other specifications, codes and standards and other technical documents, Vendor shall refer
the matter to GAIL / MECON for clarification. The following order of precedence shall govern.

i) Scope of Work & Design Basis / Criteria


ii) Data Sheets
iii) Job / Equipment Specifications
iv) Standard Specifications
v) Codes & Standards.

In case any issue still remains unresolved, the most stringent requirement shall apply.

1.5 Vendor shall seek GAIL / MECON approval regarding such features which are not specified

by GAIL / MECON but requirements of API-610 8 edition call for purchaser decision on 23

1.6 It shall be the responsibility of vendor to furnish operating unit. Compliance with this
specification shall not relieve vendor of the responsibilities of furnishing equipment and
accessories / auxiliaries of proper design, materials and workmanship to meet the specified
start up and operating conditions.

In case vendor considers requirement of additional instrumentation, controls, safety devices


and any other accessories / auxiliaries essential for safe and satisfactory operation of the
equipment, he shall recommend the same along with reasons in a separate section along
with his offer and include the same in his scope of supply.

1.7 Pump shall be a regular and established manufacturer of centrifugal pumps as per API.

1.8 Pump vendor shall have adequate engineering, manufacturing and testing facilities for
pumps conforming to API standard.

1.9 Pump model offered shall be from the existing regular manufacturing range of the pump
vendor. Vendor's / manufacturer's catalogue and general reference list shall be furnished
along with the offer.

1.10 The offered pump shall be of a proven design in similar service. At least one (1) unit of
comparable type, rating and design should have been designed, manufactured from the
proposed manufacturing unit, tested and supplied by vendor during last seven / five years
from the date of submission of offer and at least one unit must have successfully completed
8000 hours of operation at site without any problems. Vendor shall have to furnish
references from users, if called for.

1.11 Since this reference list will be used for establishing provenness of proposed model for
operating under specified operating conditions, it is in vendor's own interest to select such
reference, where the proposed model is supplied and operating at conditions similar to those
specified for item against which the proposed model is offered. In addition, manufacturer's
catalogue and general reference list for the pump shall also be furnished.

1.12 Pump vendor shall assume responsibility for satisfactory hydraulic and mechanical
performance of the equipment for the specified service.

1.13 Pump and all auxiliaries shall be suitable for the specified area classification.

1.14 Pump vendor shall not offer any alternative designs.

1.15 One set of special tools and tackles required either for installation / erection and operation
and maintenance of the pump units shall be included in vendor's scope of supply.

2.0 INSTRUCTIONS TO TENDERER

02.01 The equipment covered in this specification shall conform to the technical specifications,
general requirements and the relevant standards (latest revision) in respect of
dimensions, sizes, material of construction, manufacturing, inspection, testing, painting,
marking and packaging procedures.

02.02 The Tenderer shall quote separately for the supply of spare parts for two years of
normal operation & maintenance of above equipment. The Tenderer shall include the
item wise list with price for such spare parts.

02.03 The Tenderer shall quote item wise unit weight and price and total weights and price of
equipment to be supplied under this specification. The Tenderer shall indicate rate of
each item separately.

02.04 The Tenderer shall include in the offer complete new and unused equipment, fasteners,
flanges & gaskets.

02.05 The Tenderer shall not off-load the contract or part thereof to any Sub-contractor
without written permission of MECON. In case, sub-letting of any part of the work is
permitted by MECON, the fact that such permission has been accorded shall not
establish any contractual relationship between approved Sub-contractor and MECON nor
shall release the Contractor from any of his obligations and liabilities under the contract.

02.06 All correspondences/documents shall be in English Language and the data/calibration


details shall be submitted in Metric Units only.

02.07 The Tenderer shall clearly indicate the items, if any, excluded from his scope of work,
failing which it will be deemed that the scope of work shall be in conformity with the
requirements of this specification.

02.08 This technical specification shall be read in conjunction with the Data Sheets.

02.09 The equipment shall be supplied strictly as per the specifications indicated in technical
specifications. In case of any deviation proposed by the Tenderer, the same shall be
clearly indicated in the offer along with the reasons for the same. Such deviations shall
be subject to Purchaser's approval.

02.10 The Tenderer shall clearly indicate any assumption made in respect of specification, data
or any other details that have not been mentioned in this tender but considered
necessary for sizing & selection of equipment to meet the specified duty requirements.
Any such assumptions not indicated during tendering stage, will not be binding on
MECON/Purchaser. The Contractor, under these conditions, shall supply plant and
equipment based on the data acceptable to MECON/Purchaser without any extra cost.

02.11 The Tenderer shall list out in the tender all equipment along with its component/parts
indicating make, type and other details. In respect of components/parts of equipment
whose details are not mentioned in the tender specification, MECON reserves the right 25
to specify particular type and make of such items even after award of contract.

02.12 A non-corrodable S.S. name plate for the equipment shall be provided on each
equipment.

02.13 The Successful Tenderer shall submit well in advance scheme drawings, general
arrangement & detailed fabrication drawings, material specification, welding procedures,
inspection & testing methods etc., for various components, sub-assemblies and the
complete equipment for the approval of MECON/ Purchaser. However, such approval
shall not relieve the Contractor of his responsibilities towards completion of work as
defined in the contract.

02.15 All necessary facilities including tools, tackles, testing equipment, instruments,
accessories, etc. shall be provided by the Contractor to enable inspection of equipment
by MECON/Purchaser/ Third Party during its manufacture/fabrication

3.0 CODES & STANDARDS

3.1 Codes, Standards and Regulations

The centrifugal pumps covered by this specification shall be designed, manufactured and
tested in accordance with the requirements of this Project Specifications, GAIL/MECON
approved data sheets and the latest editions of applicable National / International codes and
standards (not limited to those listed hereunder) and Statutory Regulations (where
applicable).

• API Std. 610 Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Hevay Duty for the (main governing
code) Chemical and Gas Industry Services.

• OISD : 113 Standard on classification of area for electrical installations at

3.2 Mandatory Indian Statutory Requirements

This document has been prepared to the National / International Standards detailed within.
Vendor shall ensure that the scope of work is executed in accordance with all mandatory
Indian statutory requirements.

4.0 SCOPE OF SUPPLY

4.1 General

Vendor shall furnish completely filled in data sheets for centrifugal pump as per
API 610 for review and approval of GAIL/MECON.

Vendor shall supply all necessary equipments specified for the package / unit and auxiliary
systems and all other requirements in accordance with this specifications. Any equipment
that is necessary to make a complete, operable, safe and dependable package / unit but not
specifically identified herein shall also be in Vendor's scope of supply.

The scope of supply for centrifugal pump unit shall include, but not necessarily be limited to
the following :

• Pump & Driver


• Common Base Plate (drain rim type)
• Seals and Seal systems
• Cooling Systems ( if required)
• Flexible couplings, complete with suitable non-sparking guard.
• Power transmission gear unit (if required)
• All necessary interconnecting pipe work, fittings and valves, including drain connections,
terminating at the edge of the baseplate / skid.
• All necessary electricals, controls and instrumentation (as applicable).
• Any additional piping, instrumentation or accessories necessitated nominated by this
specification or as shown within the package limits on nominated P&ID drawings.
• All necessary spare parts for start-up and commissioning.
• A list of spare parts recommended for one year and for two years of operation
• One (1) set of any tools required for maintenance of the pump unit.
• Inspection and testing as called for in this specification and its attachments.
• All documentation as specified in this specification and as listed in the GAIL/MECON
procurement documentation
• Preparation for Shipment

All the above components shall be mounted on a common structural skid fully assembled,
piped with inlet and outlet piping terminated at the skid edge with appropriately rated
flanges, wired, tested and painted for Marine & Coastal environment.

Vendor shall be responsible for the complete design, engineering, coordination, testing,
delivery and proper functioning of the equipment not withstanding any omissions from this
specification. 27

5.0 ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN CRITERIA

5.1 Climatic Conditions

The climatic and other conditions under which the equipment will operate are detailed in the
process package (design criteria) of the bidding document. Conditions specific to the
Equipment Package shall be detailed on individual equipment data sheets.

The vendor is responsible for ensuring that all equipment and components provided are
suitable for the utility and environmental conditions as specified during the entire design life.

5.2 Area Classification

Electrical and Instrumentation will be rated for the applicable Hazardous Area classification
according to API RP500.

6.0 BASIC DESIGN / DESIGN CRITERIA

6.1 General

Vendor’s standard design shall be capable of meeting the performance requirements when
operating in the environment as mentioned the process package or elsewhere for a period of
total design life of the installation of 20 years with minimum uninterrupted service period of
3 years. Vendor shall identify any aspects of the standard components of packages that
don't meet this specification and submit descriptions to GAIL / MECON during the tendering
process.

Except where amended by the data sheets or this specification, the design of centrifugal
pumps shall be in accordance with the requirements of the current edition of Standard API -
610 'Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Heavy Duty Chemical and Gas Industry Services'.
Headings in brackets in following! sections show the Clauses of API - 610 being amended or
added to.

The following sections indicate amendments and additions to the various requirements of
API - 610 with the relevant clause numbers of that standard cross referenced in brackets.
Additional paragraphs have also been included using API - 610 clause numbering. For seal
less pump the designing code shall be API 685.

constructed for a minimum service life of the total design life of the installation (excluding
normal wear parts as identified in Table 6-1 of API 610) and at least 3 years of uninterrupted
operation. It is recognized that this requirement is design criterion.

(2.1.14) Addition

The maximum permissible sound, level shall not exceed 88 dBa measured at 1 meter away
from pump surface for the recommended range of operation.

(2.1.20) Modification

The suction side of all pumps handling hydrocarbons shall be designed for full discharge
pressure unless otherwise approved.

(2.2.7) Addition

Radially split casing gaskets shall be confined and compression-restricted, spiral-wound


metal, composition-filled non-abestos conforming to ASME B16.20.

6.5 (2.3) Nozzles and Pressure Casing Connections

(2.3.2.1) Amendment

Pumps shall have suction and discharge flanges of the same pressure and temperature
rating.

(2.3.3.3) Addition
Cylindrical threads shall not be used.

(2.3.3.10) Addition

Casings shall be provided with vent and drain connections consisting of a nipple, threaded
and seal welded to the casing and fitted with a socket welded ball valve terminated at edge
of the base plate. Ball valve shall be of a similar rating as the pump discharge flange with
material of construction equal or superior to the pump casing.

Shaft sleeves shall be coated with Colmonoy 6 or Stellite 6 over the area in contact with the
flexible sealing member.

Where recirculation to seal from pump discharge is required, API piping plan 1 will not be
acceptable.

All vertical pumps with mechanical seals shall be equipped with a vent connection and valve
at the highest point of the seal space.

6.8 (2.11) Materials

(2.11.1.4) Addition

Cast iron shall not be used for pressure containing parts.

(2.11.1.7) Amendment

Vendor shall provide material certificates giving chemical composition and mechanical data
for pressure-containing parts and all main components of the pump.

(2.11.1.11) Addition

The hardness of production welds in all carbon steel equipment exposed to wet H2S (more
than 50ppm H2S), amines, caustic or aqueous acidic solutions, shall not exceed 200 Brinell
Hardness Number (HB).

The hardness of production welds in all low-alloy steel equipment to wet hydrogen sulfide
(more than 50 ppm H2S) amines, caustic or aqueous acidic: solutions, shall not exceed 225
HB.

All carbon and low-alloy steel equipment in these services shall be post weld heat treated.

(2.11.2.5) Addition

The words "when specified" stand deleted.

Casting Repair procedures shall be submitted for approval prior to any repair.

6.9 (3.1) Drivers

(3.1.4) Modification

Electric motor drivers shall have a maximum continuous rating (MCR) (i.e. service factor
equal to 1) nor lower than the following:

The electric motor shall be suitable for the electrical area classification specified on the data
sheet.

Note:
1. Over and above the requirements specified in Table and the above modifications, the
motor nameplate rating for pumps under parallel operation shall not be less than the
max BKW indicated on pump data sheet (Power at End of the curve for the rated
impeller) and the pump motors shall be suitable for start-up under open discharge
valve condition.

2. The motor nameplate rating for applications where the specific gravity of pumped
fluid is less than 1.0 shall either be 100% of the BKW of pump at minimum
continuous stable flow with clean cold water of sp. gravity 1.0 or shall have the
specified margin as per this clause, whichever is greater.

(3.1.8) Amendment
The use of hollow shaft motors is not acceptable.

6.10 (3.2) Couplings and Guards

(3.2.2) Addition

The coupling service factor shall not be less than 1.5 over the driver rating.

(3.2.12) Addition

Coupling guard shall be non-sparking and shall be open at the bottom to permit manual
shaft rotation. The guard shall be sufficiently rigid to withstand deflections as a result of
bodily contact of nominally 100 kgs.

6.11 (3.3) Base plates

(3.3.1) Addition

Base plates shall be suitable for LPG installation as follows :

a) The baseplate shall be of a continuous self-supporting type, constructed with channel


side and cross-member supports.
b) Welds runs shall be continuous and joints fully seal welded.

c) All equipment supports shall be directly and rigidly attached to the main structural
steel members of the baseplate by continuous welding.
d) Pumps, auxiliary systems, drivers, piping or appurtenances shall not extend beyond
the extremities of the baseplate.

(3.3.12) Addition

Baseplates shall be sufficiently rigid to be mounted without grouting.

All piping and appurtenances shall be within the confines of the baseplates with terminations
at the edge of the base frame.
(3.3.1.3) Modification

Mounting pads for all equipment that requires fine adjustment of position for alignment
regardless of component weight, shall be furnished with axial and lateral jackscrews. The
number of axial and lateral jackscrews per equipment item shall total (8). All jackscrews
shall be manufactured from stainless steel materials.

(3.3.1.4) Addition

Baseplates shall be machined in such a way as to require shims under the driver (and
gearbox, if applicable).

Shim packs shall be engineered to permit the adjustment of driver and gearbox height in
increments no greater than 0.05 mm for a range of ± 100% of the nominal shim allowance.
To that end, it is envisaged that shim packs would comprise of 1 shim in each of the
following thicknesses: 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 & 1.6mm (i.e. 6 shims totaling 3.15mm) plus
one additional shim of 3.2 mm thickness.

Shims shall provide full foot support with the exception that shims shall be slotted in the
area of hold down bolts (and jacking bolts when provided). Shims shall be produced with all
corners radiused using a process that does not leave raised edges. Each shim shall be
marked with its thickness and where the shim designs are different for the various
equipment feet, its intended location shall also be marked.

Any shims not required for unit alignment prior to dispatch from the Vendor's works shall be
delivered with the unit.

(3.3.1.10) Addition

When specified, anchor bolts shall be a minimum of 20 mm in diameter. Anchor bolt holes
shall be located at each cross-member junction with the! baseplate. The maximum span
between anchor bolts shall not exceed 900mm.

(3.3.1.11) Addition

The hold-down bolts and holes shall be sized and located to eliminate bolt binding
interference during field alignment.

Vendor shall furnish vertical pumps, other than double case or canned type, with separate
sole plate.

6.12 (3.5) Piping and Appurtenances


(3.5.2.4) Substitution

Auxiliary process fluid piping material shall be in SS-316L materials.

(3.5.4.1) Addition
Where a heat exchanger is required, a shell and tube heat exchangers that meets the
requirements of API - 660 – Heat - Exchanger for General Refinery Service shall be provided
by pump vendor.

The material of the cooled side of the Heat Exchanger shall consist of tubes manufactured in
Type 316L stainless steel as a minimum requirement. The product water shall pass over the
tubes on the shell side.

(3.5.4.2) Addition

The nominal diameter for cooling water piping shall not be less than DN20 mm.

(3.5.4.3) Amendment

Sight flow indicators shall be fitted in each cooling water return line and shall be of the
closed "see-through" type with a ball or flag for easy verification of flow. A strainer shall be
fitted in the up-stream piping leg on the cooling side of the heat exchanger.

6.13 (4.0) Inspection and Testing

In addition to the requirements of inspection mentioned in the mechanical scope of work,


followings are also required.

(4.1.1) Addition

Each individual pump shall be inspected and tested. Random or "type" inspection and testing
is not permitted.

The minimum material inspection requirement for pressure containing casing shall be as per
the following inspection categories:

Category A:

This category is applicable for carbon steel casings in services with process design pressure

up to 41 kg/cm and design temperature from 0 to 150 °C.

Inspection requirements shall be as per Vendor's standard Quality Assurance Plan or as


nominated in Equipment Data Sheets.

Category B:

This category is applicable for services within the design pressure range of 0 to 71.4 kg/cm

Inspection requirement shall include visual inspection and magnetic particle or liquid
penetrant inspection of following components as a minimum :

- Nozzle weld
- Butt welds on pressure containing components
- Fillet welds on pressure containing component
- Shafting

Liquid penetrant inspection shall be performed where magnetic particle inspection is not
practical. Magnetic particle or liquid penetrant inspection shall be carried out in accordance
with clauses 4.2.2.4 or 4.2.2.5.

Category C:

This category is applicable for services with process design pressure above 71.4 kg/cm or
process design temperature below -29 °C or above 300 °C. Inspection shall include all the
requirements detailed in Category B together with an additional radiographic or ultrasonic
inspection of the following components:

- Nozzle welds
- Butt welds on pressure containing components
Ultrasonic inspection shall be carried out when radiography is not feasible.
Radiography or ultrasonic inspection shall be carried out in accordance with clause
4.2.2.2 or 4.2.2.3.

6.14 (4.3) Testing


(4.3.2.1) Addition

Hydrostatic tests shall be carried out before any painting or preparation for painting is done.

(4.3.3.2) Addition
Pumps shall be tested with all seals, seal flush provisions and other specified auxiliaries
installed.

(4.3.3.2.1) Addition

The Vendor shall operate and test the pump in the shop for a minimum of 4 hours at rated
point.
(4.3.3.2.2) Addition

Test data shall be corrected for the speed, viscosity and specific gravity conditions specified
on the data sheet, where applicable.

(4.3.4.1.1) Amendment

NPSHR data shall be taken at four points as defined in 4.3.3.2.1 (excluding shut off) and
presented as a curve on the performance test plot.

(4.3.4.1.2) Amendment (second sentence)

For multistage pumps, or other specified critical service units, a 1.0 percent drop in
developed head shall be used to determine the onset of performance cavitation.

Addition
NPSH tests based on throttling the suction valve are not acceptable.
No plus tolerance on NPSH required shall be permitted at the rated flow point.

7.0 WARRANTY

Vendor shall have final and total responsibility for the design and mechanical performance of
all equipment supplied under this specification. Vendor shall warrant the equipment
furnished by him and the performance of the said equipment in accordance with this
specification and with warranty requirements given elsewhere in bid package.

8.0 SPARE PARTS & TOOLS:

8.1 (6.3.5) Spare Parts


Addition

Vendor shall provide spare parts needed for start-up and commissioning. Vendor shall also
furnish a separate itemized priced list of recommended spares for one as well as two (2)
years normal operation and maintenance. Lists shall include part number, part description,
serial number and normal delivery lead time. Vendor shall ensure listed parts are available
for shipment at the time of equipment shipment.

Recommended spares should take into account related factors of equipment reliability, effect
of equipment downtime upon production or safety, cost of parts and availability of
equipment service facilities.

All spare parts furnished by Vendor should be wrapped and packaged so that they will be
preserved in original as new condition under the normal conditions of storage to be
anticipated in India. Spare parts shall be properly tagged and coded so that later
identification as to intended equipment usage will be facilitated. They shall be packaged
separately, clearly marked as "spare parts" and shipped at the same time as the equipment.
Packing lists shall be furnished so that the parts can be handled without uncrating, if
required.

Start-up spares shall be packed and identified separately.

8.2 (3.6) Tools


(3.6.1) Addition

Vendor shall provide two sets of special tools or fixtures as required, for installation /
erection, operation & maintenance and disassembly of the furnished equipment.

All such tools shall be permanently tagged with information pertaining to their use. Any
special drawings or instructions pertaining to the use of such tools shall be included in the
instruction manual.

9.0 PAINTING

Painting of equipment shall comprise of high build epoxy coating followed by aliphatic
polyurethane finish paint or vendor recommendation but same shall be suitable for
coastal & Marrine conditions. Paint film thickness shall be as follows :

A. High built epoxy (Primer) 120 - 130 microns


B. Aliphatic Polyurethane (Finish) 30 - 40 microns
(or vendor recommendation)

10.0 SPECIFICATION FOR ELECTRIC MOTOR

Design of Motor shall follow the technical features given in this chapter as applicable for
the duty conditions required for the motor attached to the equipment covered under this
specification.

10.1 Site Condition

Following site conditions shall be considered for design, manufacture and supply of
electrical equipment.

- Design temperature 45 deg. C


- Humidity of air at design ambient 100 %
temperature
- Altitude above MSL: 10.5 M * (Jamnagar)
- Atmosphere: Saline, highly corrosive, humid, hot and
tropical atmosphere

The above conditions shall have to be considered for selection of insulation materials
for electrical machines and tropicalisation of insulation materials to be carried out to
suit these conditions. Since the environment is corrosive, adequate anticorrosive
treatment for clamping materials and joints are to be carried out.

10.2 Operating Condition

LT power supply condition:-

- Voltage: 415V +10%, 3 ph., 4 wire


- Frequency 50 Hz +/- 5%
- Combind variation 10% max (Absolute value)
- Designed short time rating. 50 kA for 1 Sec.
- System earthing: Solidely earthed & double earthed

10.3 General Instructions

- Rated voltage, frequency & short circuit level shall be as per IS 325.
- Also, the motors shall be designed for satisfactory operation even under conditions
of variations in supply as below :

i) wave form distortion (difference between the instantaneous value of the wave
form and instantaneous value of the fundamental component) : 5% normal
variation
ii) phase unbalance (ratio of the negative or zero sequence component to the
positive sequence component) : 2% normal variation and 5% extreme

- The motor shall be designed to maintain rated output and performance indices
for operation under conditions of normal variation specified above. The motor
shall also be capable of delivering rated output without injurious effects under
normal & extreme variations indicated above.

- Motor shall be LT AC squirrel cage induction motor, generally continuos duty


(S1), unless otherwise specified in BOQ

- Motor RPM shall be as per Data Sheet / Specified in BOQ

- Where capacity is chosen by the tenderer, detailed calculations in support of


motor capacity for all drives shall be provided by tenderer. These calculations
shall take care of all ambient conditions, variations in voltage, frequency etc. and
various other factors involved.

- Class of insulation shall be class F and temperature rise shall be limited to class B
as per IS325 : 1978

- The windings shall be tropicalised to protect it from saline & humid environment
prevalent at site, by coating it with non-hygroscopic coating of sufficient thickness
of insulation such as Dr. Beck’s varnish or, other superior insulation.

10.4 Construction Features

Stator

Stator Frame

- For frame sizes upto 315, fabricated steel body is acceptable. But for frames
above 315, only fabricated steel or SG iron construction shall be used. Frame size
and rating shall be as per IPSS.

- Unless otherwise specified, stator shall be of horizontal foot mounted construction


with casing feet integral with the motor body.

- Fabricated steel parts of the motors shall be suitably annealed to eliminate any
residual stresses introduced during the process of fabrication and machining.

- Where vector driven / VVVF drive is envisaged, stator design shall be designed
accordingly to taken care of it

Magnetic Core

- The stator laminations shall be made from suitable grade silicone steel sheets
varnished on both sides. They shall be pressed and clamped adequately to
reduce the core and teeth vibrations to the minimum.

Winding

- All insulated winding conductor shall be of copper.

- The insulation shall be given fungicidal and tropical treatment.

- After the coils are placed in slots and all connections are made, entire motor
assembly shall be impregnated by completely submerging core and winding in
suitable insulating compound or varnish followed by proper baking.

- At least two additional submersions and bakes shall be applied either making a
total of at least three submersions and bake treatment.

- Non hygroscopic coating of sufficient thickness such as Dr. Beck’s varnish or


better shall be applied

Rotor

- Shall be adequately designed to avoid overheating during the starting and


running conditions. (ie. limit of insulation class provided)
- Shall be properly balanced so as to keep the vibration under running condition
within the limits.
- Shall be so designed as to keep the combined critical speed with the driven
equipment away from the running speed by at least 20 %.
- All high speed rotors shall be constructed with provision of re-balancing the rotor
on its site position without major disassembly.
- Where vector driven / VVVF drive is envisaged, rotor design shall be done
accordingly to take care of it.

Enclosure

- Degree of protection provided by the enclosure shall be IP 55 for Motor and


Terminal Box

- Motors shall have drain plugs so located that they will drain water, resulting from
condensation or other causes from all pockets in the motor casing.

- Motors weighing more than 25 Kg. shall be provided with eyebolts, lugs or other
means to facilitate lifting.

- All screws, nuts and studs etc. shall be of electrogalvanised or zinc passivated
type.

- Two earth terminal shall be provided on the outside of the motors suitable for
25x5 mm G.I strip connection.

- Motors shall be suitable for IP55 / Flameproof group IIB (for hazardous location
zone I), as specified in Equipment Data Sheet.

Terminal Box

- Shall be amply dimensioned so as to be suitable to receive armoured copper


cables. The cable sizes shall be indicated during approval of drawing.

- Shall be of weather-proof construction designed for outdoor service and to


eliminate entry of dust and water. Gaskets of neoprene or approved equivalent
shall be provided at cover joints and between box and motor frame.

- The terminals shall be of the stud type with necessary plain washer, spring
washers and check-nuts. They shall be substantaily designed for the current
carrying capacity and shall ensure ample phase to phase and phase to ground
clearances.

- Shall normally be provided on the right side when viewed from the front of the
drive side, or on top. This shall further be reviewed during approval of drawing.

- Terminal box frame with the opening for cables shall be rotatable through 360
degree in steps of 90 degree.

- A suitable earthing stud shall be provided inside the terminal box. In addition,
two independent earthing terminals shall be provided on opposite sides of the
motor, for bolted connection of the earthing conductors.

- A suitable terminal box shall be provided for thermistor protection and space
heater in the same terminal box as that of power / a separate terminal box,
wherever applicable.

- Terminal box shall be suitable for IP55 / Flameproof group IIB / IIC (for
hazardous location zone I), as specified in Equipment Data Sheet.

Cooling

- The LT motors shall be of fan cooled design (IC 01 41 as per IS : 6362 – 1971)
with fan directing air over the motor frame. The fans shall be constructed either
from cast iron or, from alluminium alloy and integrally cast on steel / cast iron
hub. A positive locking system shall be provided to lock the fan both radially and
axially. Fans shall be suitable for rotation in either direction, without effecting the
performance of motors. If this is not possible for large motors, it shall be possible
to reverse the fan without effecting the balancing of motors.

- Ventilation shall be effective irrespective of direction of rotation.

Accessories

- Space heaters at 240 V AC shall be provided for motors above 132 KW. For crane
duty motors, space heaters shall be provided above 30 KW.

- Suitable thermistor shall be provided in stator winding for all crane duty motors.

- All motors should be provided with suitable nos. and sizes of cable glands (as per
flameproof category). The sizes shall be indicated in approval of drawings.

Paint And Finish

- Motor external parts shall be finished and painted to produce a neat and durable
surface and to prevent rusting and corrosion.

- The parts shall be thoroughly degreased, all rust, sharp-edged and scale removed
and treated with one coat of primer and finished with two coats of grey enamel
paint.

- The motor fan shall also be painted to prevent corrosion.

- Motor parts shall be tropicalised to protect from saline and humid environment,
by coating with non-hygroscopic coating of sufficient thickness of insulation to
make motors suitable for operation in sea shore climate.

10.5 Performance Requirements

Starting Requirements

- Motors shall be suitable for full voltage DOL upto 7.5 KW and Start Delta and soft
starting for more than 7.5 KW

- Motors shall be able to start and accelerate with 80 % of the rated voltage at the
motor terminals without injurious heating.

- Motors shall be capable of withstanding the electrodynamic stresses and heating


imposed when started at 110 % of the rated voltage.

- The torque - speed characteristics shall meet the specific application


requirements matching that of the coupled mechanism so that smooth
acceleration is obtained without overheating.

- Starting current shall be less than or equal to 6 times the rated current

- Shall have a starting torque not less than 160 % of the rated torque for general
purpose continuous rated motors.

- Shall be suitable for the following minimum no. of starts for continuous duty
motors:

(a) Three equally spread starts per hour


(b) Two starts in quick succession, coasting to rest between starts
(c) one start with initial temperature corresponding to rated operating
temperature.

- Shall be suitable for being switched-on to a solid power mains even at phase
opposition at a maximum residual voltage of 50 % i.e. the motor should be
capable of withstanding 150 % of the rated voltage.

Running Requirements

- The motor shall be capable of withstanding for 15 seconds without stalling or


abrupt change in speed (under gradual increase of torque) an excess torque of
60 % of the rated torque, the voltage and frequency being maintained at the
rated value.

- The pull-out torque shall be not less than 300% of the rated torque.

- Motors shall operate at rated load at 80% rated voltage for 5 minutes without
injurious heating.

Locked rotor withstand

- Locked rotor withstand time under hot conditions (corresponding to 110%


nominal voltage at motor terminals) shall be more than the accelerating time
(corresponding to 80% of motor voltage and motor fully loaded) by at least 2
second or, 15% of accelerating time, whichever is greater.

Overload

- Motors shall be capable of withstanding occassionally an overload of 50 % of the


rated current for 2 minutes.

Overspeed

- Motors shall be capable of withstanding for 2 minutes 120 % of rated speed.

Quality of operation

- Vibration shall be limited to 25 microns peak to peak for motors of frame sizes
upto 225 and 37.5 microns for frame sizes above 225.

- Continuous noise level should not exceed 85 db at a distance of 1.0 meters.

10.6 Tests

Test as per relevant standards shall be conducted at manufacturer's works on the


offered equipment prior to dispatch in presence of purchaser/purchaser's
representative and certified test results shall be furnished by vendor to the
purchaser. After the tests the equipment shall be dispatched as per purchaser's
instructions.

Routine Tests

The following shall constitute the routine tests.

- Insulation resistance test ( both before and after the high voltage test )
- High voltage test.
- No load running of motor and reading of current in the three phases, voltage,
power input and speed.
- Locked rotor readings of voltage, current, power input and values of torque of
motors at a suitable reduced voltage.
- Reduced voltage running up test at no-load to check the ability of the motor to
run upto full speed on-load in each direction of rotation with 1/3 of the rated line
voltage applied to the stator terminals.

Type Tests

The following shall constitute the type tests :

- Measurement of stator resistance.


- Full load reading of voltage, current, power input and slip.
- Temperature rise tests.
- Momentary overload test.

11.0 PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT

After final Testing and approval, the assembly shall be drained of water and dried.

All items shall be properly packed and protected against damage during shipment. Each
crate, bag or package shall be clearly identified with the purchase order number and
identification symbol, and shall be securely fastened to the package.
Exposed surfaces shall be coated with an easily removable rust preventative.

All flanged opening shall be protected with steel plate covers attached by proper bolting and
sealed with plastic compound.

All electrical control enclosures shall be properly plugged at entries and loaded with silica gel
bags where necessary.

The Vendor shall state in their proposal their recommendations for long term storage (up to
12 months) for both indoor and outdoor storage in a. corrosive environment. 43

01 INTENT OF SPECIFICATION

This specification covers design, engineering, procurement, manufacture, inspection, testing,


packing and delivery of equipment/ items listed below, details of which are furnished under
scope of work, required for LPG transfer from Essar Oil Limited, Jamnagar to RPL Jamnagar.
The pump shall be designed as per API 685 latest edition.

1.1 This specification alongwith data sheet other specifications & attachments to inquiry / order
describes and constitutes the minimum requirement for horizontal/Vertical centrifugal pump
and their accessories / auxiliaries for use in the process & pipeline applications.

The intent of these requirements is to supplement the requirements as given in data sheets,

specifications.

1.2 Vendor shall make all possible efforts to comply strictly with the requirements of this
specification and other aforesaid specifications / attachments to inquiry / order.

In case any deviations are considered essential by vendor, same shall be separately listed
(with cross reference to Page No. / Section / Clause No. / Para etc. of the respective
document) in vendor's offer under section titled as "List of deviations / exceptions to the
inquiry document", duly supported with proper reasons for the deviation for GAIL/MECON
considerations. No cognizance shall be given to any deviation indicated elsewhere, but not
listed in the deviation list.

All such issues should be conveyed to GAIL / MECON in writing by the


perspective vendor prior / during the pre-bid conference, if any, before
submitting the final offer.

No deviation and exception from this specification shall be permitted without written
approval of GAIL / MECON.

1.3 Except as specified herein, the pump shall be designed, manufactured, tested and supplied
in accordance with API-685, latest edition, data sheets, specifications and applicable codes /
standards (latest edition).

1.4 In the event of any conflict / contradiction / discrepancy / dispute between this specification,
other specifications, codes and standards and other technical documents, Vendor shall refer
the matter to GAIL / MECON for clarification. The following order of precedence shall govern.

i) Scope of Work & Design Basis / Criteria


ii) Data Sheets
iii) Job / Equipment Specifications
iv) Standard Specifications
v) Codes & Standards.

In case any issue still remains unresolved, the most stringent requirement shall apply.

by GAIL / MECON but requirements of API-685 latest edition call for purchaser decision on
these matters.

1.6 It shall be the responsibility of vendor to furnish operating unit. Compliance with this
specification shall not relieve vendor of the responsibilities of furnishing equipment and
accessories / auxiliaries of proper design, materials and workmanship to meet the specified
start up and operating conditions.

In case vendor considers requirement of additional instrumentation, controls, safety devices


and any other accessories / auxiliaries essential for safe and satisfactory operation of the
equipment, he shall recommend the same along with reasons in a separate section along
with his offer and include the same in his scope of supply.

1.7 Pump shall be a regular and established manufacturer of centrifugal pumps as per API.

1.8 Pump vendor shall have adequate engineering, manufacturing and testing facilities for
pumps conforming to API standard.

1.9 Pump model offered shall be from the existing regular manufacturing range of the pump
vendor. Vendor's / manufacturer's catalogue and general reference list shall be furnished
along with the offer.

1.10 The offered pump shall be of a proven design in similar service. At least one (1) unit of
comparable type, rating and design should have been designed, manufactured from the
proposed manufacturing unit, tested and supplied by vendor during last seven / five years
from the date of submission of offer and at least one unit must have successfully completed
8000 hours of operation at site without any problems. Vendor shall have to furnish
references from users, if called for.

1.11 Since this reference list will be used for establishing provenness of proposed model for
operating under specified operating conditions, it is in vendor's own interest to select such
reference, where the proposed model is supplied and operating at conditions similar to those
specified for item against which the proposed model is offered. In addition, manufacturer's
catalogue and general reference list for the pump shall also be furnished.

1.12 Pump vendor shall assume responsibility for satisfactory hydraulic and mechanical
performance of the equipment for the specified service.

1.13 Pump and all auxiliaries shall be suitable for the specified area classification.

1.14 Pump vendor shall not offer any alternative designs.

1.15 One set of special tools and tackles required either for installation / erection and operation
and maintenance of the pump units shall be included in vendor's scope of supply.

02 INSTRUCTIONS TO TENDERER

02.01 The equipment covered in this specification shall conform to the technical specifications,
general requirements and the relevant standards (latest revision) in respect of
dimensions, sizes, material of construction, manufacturing, inspection, testing, painting,
marking and packaging procedures.

02.02 The Tenderer shall quote separately for the supply of spare parts for two years of
normal operation & maintenance of above equipment. The Tenderer shall include the
item wise list with price for such spare parts.

02.03 The Tenderer shall quote item wise unit weight and price and total weights and price of
equipment to be supplied under this specification. The Tenderer shall indicate rate of
each item separately.

02.04 The Tenderer shall include in the offer complete new and unused equipment, fasteners,
flanges & gaskets.

02.05 The Tenderer shall not off-load the contract or part thereof to any Sub-contractor
without written permission of MECON. In case, sub-letting of any part of the work is
permitted by MECON, the fact that such permission has been accorded shall not
establish any contractual relationship between approved Sub-contractor and MECON nor
shall release the Contractor from any of his obligations and liabilities under the contract.

02.06 All correspondences/documents shall be in English Language and the data/calibration


details shall be submitted in Metric Units only.

02.07 The Tenderer shall clearly indicate the items, if any, excluded from his scope of work,
failing which it will be deemed that the scope of work shall be in conformity with the
requirements of this specification.

02.08 This technical specification shall be read in conjunction with the Data Sheets.

02.09 The equipment shall be supplied strictly as per the specifications indicated in technical
specifications & as per requirement of API 685 latest edition. In case of any deviation
proposed by the Tenderer, the same shall be clearly indicated in the offer along with the
reasons for the same. Such deviations shall be subject to Purchaser's approval.

02.10 The Tenderer shall clearly indicate any assumption made in respect of specification, data
or any other details that have not been mentioned in this tender but considered
necessary for sizing & selection of equipment to meet the specified duty requirements.
Any such assumptions not indicated during tendering stage, will not be binding on
MECON/Purchaser. The Contractor, under these conditions, shall supply plant and
equipment based on the data acceptable to MECON/Purchaser without any extra cost.

02.11 The Tenderer shall list out in the tender all equipment along with its component/parts
indicating make, type and other details. In respect of components/parts of equipment
whose details are not mentioned in the tender specification, MECON reserves the right
to specify particular type and make of such items even after award of contract.

02.12 A non-corrodable S.S. name plate for the equipment shall be provided on each
equipment.

02.13 The Successful Tenderer shall submit well in advance scheme drawings, general
arrangement & detailed fabrication drawings, material specification, welding procedures,
inspection & testing methods etc., for various components, sub-assemblies and the
complete equipment for the approval of MECON/ Purchaser. However, such approval
shall not relieve the Contractor of his responsibilities towards completion of work as
defined in the contract.

02.14 All necessary facilities including tools, tackles, testing equipment, instruments,
accessories, etc. shall be provided by the Contractor to enable inspection of equipment
by MECON/Purchaser/ Third Party during its manufacture/fabrication

Documented procedures shall be available for all test procedures, control of testing

06.01 The Scope of Work covers design, procurement of raw materials, fabrication, assembly,
inspection, testing, painting, protection & packing, transportation, supervision during
erection & commissioning and delivery to EOL Site for LPG Transfer Pumps of seal less
Zero Leak type design (canned motor pumps) as per API 685 latest edition, details of
which are mentioned below.

06.02 Preparation and submission of Documents and drawings as mentioned in clause 05. All
drawings/ documents for approval including civil load data & drawings shall be
submitted within 2 weeks of placement of order for the approval by the Purchaser.

07 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

07.01 The LPG Transfer pumps shall be zero-leak, gland less, seal less, canned motor
pumps with high efficiency and compact design. Pump design shall ensure easy
maintainability at hazardous locations & shall be designed as per API 685.

The best suitable pump for the given application & pumping media shall be offered
giving their suitability & limitations, if any. Considering the properties of the fluid, like
vapour pressure etc., manufacturer is at liberty to select & offer special design like
external recirculation type etc., instead of conventional internal recirculation type.

07.02 Safety Features :

07.03 Inspection & Testing

Stage wise and final Inspection will be arranged by Contractor as per quality
assurance programme followed by him. Extent of inspection shall be as per the
approved Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) & shall be as per API 685 latest edition.

The Contractor shall submit for Purchaser's approval, a detailed plan of applicable
examinations and tests required for the individual components and weldments. All
inspection and testing as per approved QAP shall be carried out by the contractor
without any cost implications.

Pumps shall be manufactured and supplied under GAIL / MECON or Third Party
Inspection.

As part of inspection activity following items will be covered :

• Approval of design and drawings including design calculations.


• Identification of raw material, material check testing etc.
• Stage wise inspection, during the course of fabrication including non
destructive tests and verification of test data.
• Dimensional inspection
• Witness of hydro test, pneumatic test etc.
• Performance test
• Helium leak test for stator can welding
• Static and dynamic balancing of all individual rotating parts and complete
rotating parts
• Final inspection including painting etc.

GAIL / MECON shall carry out stage or final inspection and witness stage, final or special
test, if felt necessary.

07.04 Painting

Painting of equipment shall comprise of high build epoxy coating followed by aliphatic
polyurethane finish paint or vendor recommendation but same shall be suitable
for Coastal & Marrine conditions. Paint film thickness shall be as follows :

A. High built epoxy (Primer) 120 - 130 microns

B. Aliphatic Polyurethane (Finish) 30 - 40 microns

07.05 Performance Guarantee Test

Pump shall be tested at the manufacturer’s test bed with simulated conditions.
Tenderer’s shall demonstrate the successful run of pump with LPG at site to meet the
specified parameters.

08 SPECIFICATION FOR ELECTRIC MOTOR

Design of Motor shall follow the technical features given in this chapter as applicable for
the duty conditions required for the motor attached to the equipment covered under this
specification.

08.01 Site Condition

Following site conditions shall be considered for design, manufacture and supply of
electrical equipment.

- Design temperature 45 deg. C


- Humidity of air at design ambient 100 %
temperature
- Altitude above MSL: 10.5 M * (Jamnagar)
- Atmosphere: Saline, highly corrosive, humid, hot and
tropical atmosphere

The above conditions shall have to be considered for selection of insulation materials
for electrical machines and tropicalisation of insulation materials to be carried out to
suit these conditions. Since the environment is corrosive, adequate anticorrosive
treatment for clamping materials and joints are to be carried out.

08.02 Operating Condition

LT power supply condition:-

- Voltage: 415V +10%, 3 ph., 4 wire


- Frequency 50 Hz +/- 5%
- Combind variation 10% max (Absolute value)

i) wave form distortion (difference between the instantaneous value of the wave
form and instantaneous value of the fundamental component) : 5% normal
variation

ii) phase unbalance (ratio of the negative or zero sequence component to the
positive sequence component) : 2% normal variation and 5% extreme
variation

- The motor shall be designed to maintain rated output and performance indices
for operation under conditions of normal variation specified above. The motor
shall also be capable of delivering rated output without injurious effects under
normal & extreme variations indicated above.

- Motor shall be LT AC squirrel cage induction motor, generally continuos duty


(S1), unless otherwise specified in BOQ

- Motor RPM shall be as per Data Sheet / Specified in BOQ

- Where capacity is chosen by the tenderer, detailed calculations in support of


motor capacity for all drives shall be provided by tenderer. These calculations
shall take care of all ambient conditions, variations in voltage, frequency etc. and
various other factors involved.

- Class of insulation shall be class F and temperature rise shall be limited to class B
as per IS325 : 1978

- The windings shall be tropicalised to protect it from saline & humid environment
prevalent at site, by coating it with non-hygroscopic coating of sufficient thickness
of insulation such as Dr. Beck’s varnish or, other superior insulation.

08.04 Construction Features

Stator

Stator Frame

- For frame sizes upto 315, fabricated steel body is acceptable. But for frames
above 315, only fabricated steel or SG iron construction shall be used. Frame size
and rating shall be as per IPSS.

- Unless otherwise specified, stator shall be of horizontal foot mounted construction


with casing feet integral with the motor body.

- Fabricated steel parts of the motors shall be suitably annealed to eliminate any
residual stresses introduced during the process of fabrication and machining.

- Where vector driven / VVVF drive is envisaged, stator design shall be designed
accordingly to taken care of it

Magnetic Core

- The stator laminations shall be made from suitable grade silicone steel sheets
varnished on both sides. They shall be pressed and clamped adequately to
reduce the core and teeth vibrations to the minimum.

Winding

- All insulated winding conductor shall be of copper.

- The insulation shall be given fungicidal and tropical treatment.

- After the coils are placed in slots and all connections are made, entire motor
assembly shall be impregnated by completely submerging core and winding in
suitable insulating compound or varnish followed by proper baking.

- At least two additional submersions and bakes shall be applied either making a
total of at least three submersions and bake treatment.

- Non hygroscopic coating of sufficient thickness such as Dr. Beck’s varnish or


better shall be applied

Rotor

- Shall be adequately designed to avoid overheating during the starting and


running conditions. (ie. limit of insulation class provided)

- Shall be properly balanced so as to keep the vibration under running condition


within the limits.

- Shall be so designed as to keep the combined critical speed with the driven
equipment away from the running speed by at least 20 %.

- All high speed rotors shall be constructed with provision of re-balancing the rotor
on its site position without major disassembly.

- Where vector driven / VVVF drive is envisaged, rotor design shall be done
accordingly to take care of it.

Enclosure

- Degree of protection provided by the enclosure shall be IP 55 for Motor and


Terminal Box

- Motors shall have drain plugs so located that they will drain water, resulting from
condensation or other causes from all pockets in the motor casing.

- Motors weighing more than 25 Kg. shall be provided with eyebolts, lugs or other
means to facilitate lifting.

- All screws, nuts and studs etc. shall be of electrogalvanised or zinc passivated
type.

- Two earth terminal shall be provided on the outside of the motors suitable for
25x5 mm G.I strip connection.

- Motors shall be suitable for IP55 / Flameproof group IIB (for hazardous location
zone I), as specified in Equipment Data Sheet.

Terminal Box

- Shall be amply dimensioned so as to be suitable to receive armoured copper


cables. The cable sizes shall be indicated during approval of drawing.

- Shall be of weather-proof construction designed for outdoor service and to


eliminate entry of dust and water. Gaskets of neoprene or approved equivalent
shall be provided at cover joints and between box and motor frame.

- The terminals shall be of the stud type with necessary plain washer, spring
washers and check-nuts. They shall be substantaily designed for the current
carrying capacity and shall ensure ample phase to phase and phase to ground
clearances.

- Shall normally be provided on the right side when viewed from the front of the
drive side, or on top. This shall further be reviewed during approval of drawing.

- Terminal box frame with the opening for cables shall be rotatable through 360
degree in steps of 90 degree.

- A suitable earthing stud shall be provided inside the terminal box. In addition,
two independent earthing terminals shall be provided on opposite sides of the
motor, for bolted connection of the earthing conductors.

- A suitable terminal box shall be provided for thermistor protection and space
heater in the same terminal box as that of power / a separate terminal box,
wherever applicable.

- Terminal box shall be suitable for IP55 / Flameproof group IIB / IIC (for
hazardous location zone I), as specified in Equipment Data Sheet.

Cooling

- The LT motors shall be of fan cooled design (IC 01 41 as per IS : 6362 – 1971)
with fan directing air over the motor frame. The fans shall be constructed either

hub. A positive locking system shall be provided to lock the fan both radially and
axially. Fans shall be suitable for rotation in either direction, without effecting the
performance of motors. If this is not possible for large motors, it shall be possible
to reverse the fan without effecting the balancing of motors.

- Ventilation shall be effective irrespective of direction of rotation.

Accessories

- Space heaters at 240 V AC shall be provided for motors above 132 KW. For
crane duty motors, space heaters shall be provided above 30 KW.

- Suitable thermistor shall be provided in stator winding for all crane duty
motors.

- All motors should be provided with suitable nos. and sizes of cable glands (as
per flameproof category). The sizes shall be indicated in approval of drawings.

Paint And Finish

- Motor external parts shall be finished and painted to produce a neat and
durable surface and to prevent rusting and corrosion.

- The parts shall be thoroughly degreased, all rust, sharp-edged and scale
removed and treated with one coat of primer and finished with two coats of grey
enamel paint.

- The motor fan shall also be painted to prevent corrosion.

- Motor parts shall be tropicalised to protect from saline and humid


environment, by coating with non-hygroscopic coating of sufficient thickness of
insulation to make motors suitable for operation in sea shore climate.

08.05 Performance Requirements

Starting Requirements

- Motors shall be suitable for full voltage DOL upto 7.5 KW and Start Delta and
soft starting for more than 7.5 KW

- Motors shall be able to start and accelerate with 80 % of the rated voltage at
the motor terminals without injurious heating.

- Motors shall be capable of withstanding the electrodynamic stresses and


heating imposed when started at 110 % of the rated voltage.

- The torque - speed characteristics shall meet the specific application


requirements matching that of the coupled mechanism so that smooth
acceleration is obtained without overheating.

(CANNED MOTOR PUMP) EDITION : 1

- Starting current shall be less than or equal to 6 times the rated current

- Shall have a starting torque not less than 160 % of the rated torque for
general purpose continuous rated motors.

- Shall be suitable for the following minimum no. of starts for continuous duty
motors:

(a) Three equally spread starts per hour


(b) Two starts in quick succession, coasting to rest between starts
(c) one start with initial temperature corresponding to rated operating
temperature.

- Shall be suitable for being switched-on to a solid power mains even at phase
opposition at a maximum residual voltage of 50 % i.e. the motor should be
capable of withstanding 150 % of the rated voltage.

Running Requirements

- The motor shall be capable of withstanding for 15 seconds without stalling or


abrupt change in speed (under gradual increase of torque) an excess torque of
60 % of the rated torque, the voltage and frequency being maintained at the
rated value.

- The pull-out torque shall be not less than 300% of the rated torque.

- Motors shall operate at rated load at 80% rated voltage for 5 minutes without
injurious heating.

Locked rotor withstand

- Locked rotor withstand time under hot conditions (corresponding to 110%


nominal voltage at motor terminals) shall be more than the accelerating time
(corresponding to 80% of motor voltage and motor fully loaded) by at least 2
second or, 15% of accelerating time, whichever is greater.

Overload

- Motors shall be capable of withstanding occassionally an overload of 50 % of


the rated current for 2 minutes.

Overspeed

- Motors shall be capable of withstanding for 2 minutes 120 % of rated speed.

Quality of operation

- Vibration shall be limited to 25 microns peak to peak for motors of frame

08.06 Tests

Test as per relevant standards shall be conducted at manufacturer's works on the


offered equipment prior to dispatch in presence of purchaser/purchaser's
representative and certified test results shall be furnished by vendor to the
purchaser. After the tests the equipment shall be dispatched as per purchaser's
instructions.

Routine Tests

The following shall constitute the routine tests.

- Insulation resistance test ( both before and after the high voltage test )
- High voltage test.
- No load running of motor and reading of current in the three phases, voltage,
power input and speed.
- Locked rotor readings of voltage, current, power input and values of torque of
motors at a suitable reduced voltage.
- Reduced voltage running up test at no-load to check the ability of the motor
to run upto full speed on-load in each direction of rotation with 1/3 of the rated
line voltage applied to the stator terminals.

Type Tests

The following shall constitute the type tests :

- Measurement of stator resistance.


- Full load reading of voltage, current, power input and slip.
- Temperature rise tests.
- Momentary overload test.
