Density

- Definition: It is the mass per unit volume of material.

m kg
ρ= ( )
v m3

- A high-density material maximizes the overall weight and is an aspect of low thermal

diffusivity and high thermal mass.

- The higher temperatures lead to higher thermal conductivities and the lower is the

material density, the higher is the thermal conductivity.

- The denser the material, the better sound insulation it is characterized.

- Criteria's when choosing an insulation according to its density:

1) Type of work (external or internal insulation).

2) Material insulation method.

3) Load, that is subjected to insulation.

4) Average temperatures in the winter season.

5) The need for sound insulation.

Classifications of insulations according to its density:

1) Lungs: low weight and low thermal conductivity.

2) Average: heat insulating materials are usually produced in the form of plates and blocks with

high thermal and acoustic insulation.

3) Hard: it is dense insulation, usually obtained by pressing. Also, it has low thermal

conductivity, and they characterized by moisture resistance and ability to withstand heavy loads
