MINUTES OF INDUSTRY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING


Time: Friday, November 01, 2019, 1:30-4:00 p.m.

I. Introduction and welcome


Dr. Phan Nhu Quan opened the meeting by welcoming new Industry Advisory Board (IAB) members

II. Dean’s statement
Dr. Pham Van Toan, Dean of Mechatronics and Electronics Faculty expressed deep thanks to IAB for supporting the Faculty in
training and modifying the training program. He appreciated all IAB's comments, and promised to be willing to listen and change to meet the
needs of the business.
III. Program Educational Objectives (PEO):
After 2-3 years graduates will be able to:
- PEO1: Acquire advanced degrees or engage in advanced study;
- PEO2: Manage the manufacturing process;
- PEO3: Analyze, design, operate, and develop systems in accordance with specific requirements of organizations and enterprises;
- PEO4: Start-up by themselves.
IV. Student Outcomes (SO)
After graduating, graduates will have abilities:
- Ability to apply natural science and social knowledge, modern tools such as mathematics, engineering, and technology to solve well-
defined technical problems;
- Ability to operate and design systems, components, or processes for meeting specified needs of well-defined technical problems;
- Ability to effectively communicate in well-defined technical and non-technical environments;
- Ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes;
- Ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team.
V. IAB Interaction
Problems:
1. For graduates working at the companies, what additional knowledge and professional skills are needed?
2. Graduates after working 2-3 years at the companies, what abilities do you expect students to have?
3. In addition to professional and foreign languages, what soft skills students need to enhance?
Discussion:
- Trinh Ngoc Dung, Olympus Vietnam Co., Ltd:
+ The quality of candidates is unequal;
+ English level of students is not good, not confident in communicating;
+ Should strengthen training high quality students;
+ The 3S training program is suitable for enterprises, it is necessary to focus on training students to be more compliant when
implementing 3S;
+ Should add more about effective working, writing report and teamwork skills;
+ Should enhance the logical thinking for students;
+ The content of the PEOs is significantly high for students, only PEO3 is suitable for students.
- Ha Anh Thai, Dong Nai Garment Corporation:
+ The training program should integrate the required content of the companies;
+ Students need to enhance the foreign languages and mailing skills and also attitudes when participating in interviews.
- Nguyen Minh Thien, Tokin Electronics (Vietnam) Co., Ltd:
+ The company proposes to cooperate and support to training, pledges student outcomes, internships at the company and recruit
students after completing the courses.
- Truong Đinh Hon, Lixil Global Manufacturing Vietnam:
+ For professional knowledge: students master background knowledge, however, the students have not been processed production
process yet. Students have not mastered some basic knowledge.
+ For skills: Students do not have high professional qualifications, but require a high salary. Students need to improve the teamwork
spirit. The student is quite subjective when implementing 3S.
- Nguyen Phung Hiep, On Semiconductor VietNam Company Limited:
+ Students need to improve their professional knowledge.
+ Students need to improve their communication, written and presentation skills.
- Nguyen Viet Nhan, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage Co., Ltd:
+ For internship time: 2 months is too short for students to study, it should change to more than 2 months and dedicate to Senior
students who have enough knowledge before going to practice.
+ Soft skills are not high, presentation skills are not good.
- Đinh Xuan Nam, Asia Garment Manufacturer Vn Co., Ltd:
+ The company highly appreciates the students who participate in technology contests such as ROBOCON, fuel-efficient vehicles,
etc. These competitions help students train their knowledge, teamwork skills, analytical skills to solve problems.
+ Students entering the companies need to be trained in working attitudes.
+ Students need more skills in presentation, text and mailing.
+ Students need to improve their English.
+ The company is always ready to train student skills after graduation before work.
- Nguyen Van Quang, Nam Phuong Company Limited:
+ Student's knowledge is not equal.
+ Students need to learn more creativity and thinking during work.
+ Students need to be trained to work with oriented and hard at work.
- Nguyen Van Vinh, Bien Hoa Electricity:
+ Students need to enhance professional knowledge.
+ Students need more communication, writing and presentation skills.
VI. Summary of all action items from this meeting
Dr. Pham Van Toan, Dean of the Faculty once again thanked IAB for their deeply comments, and promised to reconsider and modify
the PEOs and SOs accordingly. Especially, he paid attention to the student's skills at work such as writing reports, mailing and presentation.
VII. Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
VIII. Review and approval of minutes
The minute of the IAB meeting was recorded by MSc Nguyen Thi Truc Mai, Secretary; the minutes were then approved by Dr.
Pham Van Toan, Dean of Mechatronics and Electronics Faculty, Chairman.
