1. In the new era of technologies, USB ports are being used everywhere. Give advantages of USB over
the Obsoleting RS 232 Port.

Ease of use, reliability, flexibility, and compatibility.

2. Describe Serial Port over the Parallel Port.

A serial port is an interface on a computer system with which information is transferred in or out one bit
at a time. An interface is a connection between two subsystems. In contrast to serial ports, a parallel
port consists of multiple wires over which bits are transferred in parallel, i.e., simultaneously.

3. Explain what is meant by the technical term “Hot Plug and Play”.

Computing the insertion or removal of peripheral devices, disks, etc. while a computer is still
running without either causing damage to the system or affecting performance.

4. State down Properties of the standard Fire Wire.

Plug and socket connector capability for up to 63 devices with data transfer rate (DTR) speeds up to 400
Mbps. Peer-to-peer (P2P) device communication networking without central processing unit (CPU) or
system memory.

5. Explain the difference between Serial and Parallel Transmission.

Key Differences between Serial and Parallel Transmission. Serial transmission requires a single line to
communicate and transfer data whereas, parallel transmission requires multiple lines. Since one bit
follows another in Serial Transmission whereas, in Parallel Transmission multiple bits are sent together.
