1. Research at least three definitions of Critical Thinking

 "Critical thinking is that mode of thinking - about any subject,

content, or problem - in which the thinker improves the quality
of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the
structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual
standards upon them."

-Elder and Paul (2008) as quoted in the Foundation for Critical

Thinking's expanded content: Defining Critical Thinking.

 “The mastery of higher order thinking skills including

quantitative and qualifying analysis, synthesis, and evaluation
of information, argumentation, problem solving, and creativity."

-Faculty Senate, University of Houston-Clear Lake, 2003, as quoted on

p.6 of the UHCL Quality Enhancement Plan).

 "Purposeful, reflective judgment which manifests itself in

reasoned consideration of evidence, context, methods, standards,
and conceptualizations in deciding what to believe or what to
do."

-(p.22) Facione, P. A. (2011). Critical thinking: What it is and why it

counts. Millbrae, CA: Measured Reasons and The California Academic
Press, re-printed with permission by Insight Assessment.

2. Based from your research, what are their

types/classifications/categories/ kinds?

 Based on the definitions that I researched, the following

definitions are considered as Methodological Critical Thinking.
By definition, Methodological Critical Thinking is a type of
critical thinking that makes use of understanding and
interpretation and application of the scientific. Analyzing the
three definitions, all of these are centered on analyzing,
solving and conceptualization that are crucial in improving one’s
intellectual thinking and standards.

3. How these classifications/types/categories/kinds be applied in

teaching social studies?

 Critical thinking enables students and teachers to evaluate their

own thinking about a certain issue. In the field of education,
the Methodological Critical Thinking is essential in improving
the critical and intellectual knowledge of the students in
learning social studies. This type of critical thinking can be
applied in teaching social studies to properly evaluate certain
issues and also promotes a better historical analysis of an
event. In conclusion, this type of critical thinking improves the
quality of teaching social studies.
