From Rural Life to Urban Life

As I currently live the urban life, I also spent some of my younger years living the rural

life. With my experience living in both places in Thailand, one of them is Rangsit an urban

area near Bangkok city, where I study and live now. And Changklang a rural area in the south

that is my hometown, where I was born and had childhood memories of my life. I have

encountered and brought both benefits and downsides of each into my comparison aspects

that are not only what they have in common, but also the differences, which make me love

them both.

Away from the bustling city like Bangkok, in both places, I can enjoy the peace in my

home with no crowed horn or crowed noises through the window. Life is at a much calmer

and slower pace than in the city and less pollution. But at the same time, trading those

features for more tranquillity and less congestion, I have always encountered this

inconvenience in both places. Because I do not own a car and have to depend on public

transportation only, when I want to travel with my friends to Bangkok or another destination,

I must spend a long time waiting for a bus or taxi. Due to the lack of transportation in most

areas, several the Bangkok Mass Transit (BTS) and Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT) routes

are still under construction here.

Despite their similarities, both places have their differences. The style of living in

Rangsit is expensive. In contrast, the style of living in Changklang is more affordable. The

urban area offers a lot more amenities than I could ever find in the rural area. Expecting that

Rangsit is more developed and offer a wide range of opportunities and cultural experiences

that the rural area like my hometown, Changklang, does not have. Furthermore, I have a

variety of fun and entertainments such as shopping malls, theatres, cafes, and restaurants,

meaning better options for hanging out with my friends. Unlike Rangsit, there are not many

things to do in Chanklang. Not only fewer shops and restaurants, but also no such things like

a movie theatre, night clubs, and so on. Also, unlike my rural hometown, in the urban area,

basic amenities such as supermarkets, hospitals, and banks are reachable within walking

distance. Finally, telecommunications and Wi-Fi coverage are better in Rangsit. So, if I who

is a student, need online access for studying or doing anything, the rural life in Changklang is

very much challenging.

I have taken this opportunity from my experiences about living in rural life in

Changklang, my hometown, comparing to my current urban life in Rangsit. They have the

pros and cons of each. Both have less congestion and more peaceful living but inconvenience

due to less variety of public transportation. Along with the difference, Changklang has an

affordable lifestyle with lack of amenities, while Rangsit has costly lifestyle with amenities.

And I also found out that every place has its own unique and lifestyle. Eventually, no matter

what, my goal is to always be flexible and happy with both urban and rural life.
