(a) Complete the earthwork calculation sheet given following table (Table Q2A) and plot
the resulting mass diagram. Divide cern by 0.90 to convert to bern (bank cubic meter).
You may use the data sheet given at the end of paper for this calculation. [7 marks]

(b) A CAT D7H (power-shift) dozer is used in a pushing operation. The dozer is equipped
with a straight blade. The material (dry and noncohesive) weights 1,700kg/m3 in the
bank state. It is estimated that the material will swell 7%, from bank to loose state.
The centre-of-mass-to-centre-of-mass pushing distance is lOOm downhill on a 3%
grade. The operators have average skill and the job will be performed in dusty
conditions. Job efficiency can be assumed to be equivalent to a 45-min hour. Calculate
the direct cost of the proposed earthmoving operation in dollars per bern. The
company's normal 0&0 cost for these machines is LKR7,000 per hour and the
operator's wage is LKR 180 per hour plus 41% for fringes, insurance, worker's
compensation, and so on. [7 marks]
