Leadership & Influence:

In the absence of leadership, it is almost impossible for society to stay on board/ stay against
challenges and keep itself afloat. Leadership is to inspire, motivate and give a sense of
purpose and direction to a group of people. The ability to inspire people and make them fall
in love with his or her ideologies and goals is a testament for a good leadership quality
especially when there are troubling times during his or her tenure.

During my school time, I led various groups to achieve what I thought was in the best interest
of society. As a captain, I was leading the cricket team of 11 players at my school. Although,
the number of people were less, but a lot of internal problems took place where there was a
disagreement on different decisions. Realizing the potential bad result it might cause, I tried
to mediate them by my personal communication. It was challenging because most of the
players were egocentric and I was too young to deal with them. Nonetheless I was sure that
as a leader, I should be able to lead and reach them to the very common goal we sat.

My leadership quality did not end there. Two years after I got admission at University of
Engineering and Technology Peshawar, I was elected as the president of Afghan Students
Union. I was given the challenge to lead this union for one year. The previous leadership of
the union were less effective because there were favoritism in the committee. Learning from
the past, I decided that changes were necessary. Although, I managed to convince the other
committee members about the changes, it was initially difficult to persuade the senior
members of the union who were resistance to the changes. It was even more difficult when I
came to know that some of the members were making groups inside the union. However, the
success of the union was more important to me and hence I presented my opinions in several
decisions. At the beginning, I didn’t get support for my proposal, but I did not stop trying
because an organization should incubate new and fresh ideas and give opportunity to apply
them. After so much efforts, I managed to make them agree and executed the proposed
changes. As an output, the union was more organized and successful then the previous ones
and I was personally appreciated by the consulate general of Afghanistan in Peshawar for my
efforts as the President of Afghan Students Union at UET Peshawar.

In conclusion, I am confident that I have leadership qualities. I demonstrated it by working in

different societies and originations at different stages of my life. I believe that a good leader
Is the one who always learns and keeps improving. I consider my experience as learning
process and believe that in the future, I can be a better leader than I am now.
