• More commonly known as Skilled Independent visa is a
permanent resident visa for skilled workers who want to

This visa requires sponsorship from a State Government or a

their dependents) to obtain a provisional visa to live, work and
study in the regional/low population areas of Australia for upto 4
years.
This visa is a pathway to Permanent Residency for potential
skilled migrants who do not meet the requirements for the grant
of a Subclass 189 or 190 visa. After living in a regional/designated
area for TWO years and working Full time for ONE year, 489 visa
holders may be eligible to apply for subclass 887 visa
(Permanent).
This visa allows you and your family to:
• Stay in Australia for up to four years

English Test
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has now
begun to recognize most International English tests such as
Occupational English Test (OET), Teaching of English as Foreign
Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT), Cambridge English:
Advanced (CAE), International English Language Testing System
(IELTS) and Pearson Tests of English (PTE).
The test scores will be benchmarked against the IELTS
equivalent score for each English language proficiency level
(Functional, Vocational, Competent, Proficient or Superior).

Canadian Immigration
Programs Under Express Entry
FSWP FSTP

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) was developed as a
part of Canada's immigration strategy, wherein permanent
residents are selected based on their ability to become
economically established in Canada. The Immigration and
Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) on June 28, 2002 amended the
selection system for skilled workers due to the changing labour
market under LMIA.
Federal Skilled Worker applications are assessed based on an
applicant's ability to become economically established upon
immigration to Canada. It is based on the point system which
requires 67 points to be the eligibility criteria.
The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who wish to
become permanent residents in Canada with an experience in a
skilled trade.
From January 1, 2015, eligible candidates for the Federal Skilled
Trades Class (formerly the Federal Skilled Trades Program) can
apply by making an expression of interest in migrating to Canada
through the Express Entry selection system for immigration to
Canada.
The Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) permits individuals with
job offers or qualfied certification to work in specified
occupations to obtain Canadian permanent residence in any
Canadian province or territory other than Quebec.

CEC

The CEC is a category where the permanent resident is provided for individuals with skilled work experience in Canada. It was developed
for temporary foreign workers and foreign graduates with qualifying Canadian work experience.

Temporary foreign workers are the candidates best suited for Canadian immigration (permanent residence). As they have Canadian work
experience, they easily would have adapted and settled into Canadian society. They also would have developed important networks in
their communities and their careers.

Canadian Experience Class applications are also processed through the Express Entry selection system for immigration to Canada. The
candidates who are eligible must make an expression of interest in immigrating to Canada, create an online Express Entry profile and
receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence before they may make an application.

Assessment
Step-1
An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is a process that
verifies whether your degree, diploma, certificate (or other proof
of your credential) is valid and equal to a Canadian one. ECA is
done by World Education Services (WES) and other six
organization approved by IRCC (based on occupation*) which is
an assessing authority to assess the education credentials.

Why ECA is required?

ECA is not required if you have a Canadian degree, diploma or

certificate. You require an ECA for your foreign degree, diplomaor
certificate if:
a. you are applying for the Federal Skilled Worker Program

(FSWP) under Express Entry, and

• you are a primary applicant, and
• your education is got outside Canada, or

To be considered for express entry programs or to get points

under CRS, ECA results has to be included in the Express Entry
Profile.

The ECA report must incorporate that the completed foreign

degree, diploma or certificate is equivalent to a completed
Canadian secondary school (high school) or post-secondary
credential.

An ECA has to be performed for all completed educational

qualifications that has to be considered for immigration. You can
decide which qualification has to be assessed by the designated
organization.

According to the requirements, you can assess both your

secondary and post-secondary credentials, and not just your
highest completed qualification. If the ECA report does not
match the results of the conversion table, you will not get any
points for your educational qualifications under the CRS in
Express Entry or be eligible under the FSWP.

An ECA helps in providing feedback on how your qualifications

are compared to those in Canada. It is also useful when you are
looking for a job in Canada. But, this assessment does not give
assurance on:

• Job in your related field or in a certain level,

• Recognition of work experience and professional
qualifications in Canada, or
• License to practice in a regulated profession.

the pool.

INVITATION TO APPLY
The Government of Canada/Provincial Governments/ employers
will then select your application from the pool. The highest-
ranked applicant, or those with valid job offers or Provincial
nominations, will receive Invitation To Apply (ITA) for Canadian
permanent residency. After which the application has to be
submitted for Permanent Residence within 90 days by
complying with the requirements. Job offer is not mandatory for
applying. The applications will be in the pool for 12 months, after
that we will resubmit it, if required.
First official language test (IELTS/CELPIP) is required. Minimum
requirement under federal skill worker category is CLB-7 in each
language ability. An applicant who is included in the Express
Entry Pool, until they are issued an invitation, can update their
information in the Express Entry System and when such updates
are made the total number of points assigned to the applicant
under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is to be
recalculated; and the eligibility of the applicant to be issued an
invitation is to be re-determined.

The Comprehensive Ranking system [CRS] is a point based system that is used to assess and score a candidate’s profile to rank them in

Canadian Permanent Residents Vs H1B visa Holders in USA

While we apprise you of some of the interesting facts about
Canada, we are excited to present you a crystal clear
comparative analysis between a H1B Visa Holder in USA and a
Canadian Permanent Resident based on the feedback received
from many of our clients who currently hold an H1B status.
• H1B visa holders cannot change sponsoring employer
whereas Canadian Permanent Residents are free to move
between jobs and locations, work on contract as a
consultant, which could result in tax benefits.
• H1B visa holders are unable to start own business whereas
Canadian Permanent Residents can commence their own
businesses.
• Many H1B visa holders face the risk of going back to their
home country if their Green Cards are not applied before the
6-year limit or when H1B expires, such is not the case with
Canadian Permanent Residents. No such risk exists. At the
very outset, new immigrants receive a permanent residence
visa (very similar to the USA Green Card).
• H1B visa holders cannot sponsor dependents other than
spouse/children, whereas, once you are a permanent resident,

on you (brothers, sisters, parents etc.)
• If a spouse of H1B visa holders wishes to work, he/she has to
arrange for sponsorship from potential employers; thus creating
a barrier to finding employment, whereas in case of Permanent
Residents, spouse can legally work in Canada, as he/she also
has the Permanent Resident status - no permits or
authorizations needed.
• Citizenship for United States is a LONG wait. First the green card
and then many more years to citizenship. Whereas, in Canada 3
years of residence entitles you to apply for citizenship. Canadian
Citizens does not need H1B to work in USA.
Pursuant to new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act a
permanent resident only has to stay 2 years in 5 years period to
maintain his/her permanent resident status.
