Modify and plan enjoyable games for kids (5-12 years old)

Regarding to Movement Education course, follow up these activities and assignment.

- Study these books: Fundamental movement skills: The tools for learning, teaching and
assessment, Preparing Children For An Active And Healthy Lifestyle (Book 1 & 2)
- Watch these fundamental movement skills games video clips (the bellow’s links)

Then:
Write and explain a practical report about your game as below items:

A) The aims of game,


= To improve fine motor control and the ability to read distance.

B) Descriptions of game, step by step


• Teacher divides the activity space in half (3meter).
• Children spread out at one end of the activity space.
• Teacher places 15 small hoops around the other half of the activity space.
• Teacher places several beanbags in the corners of the activity space closest
to the children.
• Each children pick up one beanbag at a time and try to overhand throw the
beanbag into the hoops according until all beanbags are gone.
• Children must throw from behind a centre line or from designated
positions in the activity space (e.g. cones that are strategically placed).
• At the end of the round, remove any hoop that has a beanbag in it.
• Teacher then asks children to collect all beanbags and return them to the
hoops in the corners.
• Activity continues until all hoops have been eliminated.

D) Target group.
= 2 groups (each groups contain 5 children)

E) Why are they important?


= This activity develops coordination of arms and torso, fine motor control, and the ability to
“read” distances. These skills transfer to sports and activities that involve throwing an object
accurately over a perceived distance.

F) The needed spaces, tools or equipment’s.


= Small hoops and beanbags.

G) Assessment Strategies
= Ask children to sit quietly in a circle. Review what they learned today.
The question is “What are two things to remember when throwing overhand?”

H) The verbal Cues


• Stand sideways to the target
• Point to target (with non-throwing hand)
• Ball close to ear, elbow up (throwing arm)
• Rotate shoulders and trunk
