Good morning class, my names are Mutambo Ireen, a 4th year BSc student nurse and with me is Mrs Daka who will be with us
throughout our discussion /demonstration. Today we are going to discuss and demonstrate examination of the placenta. The
placenta is an organ that develops in the uterus during pregnancy. This structure provides oxygen and nutrients to the growing
baby and wastes products from the baby’s blood. The placenta attaches to the wall of the uterus, and the baby’s umbilical cord
arises from it.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
At the end of the discussion/demonstration the 3nd year registered student nurses should be able to carry out the procedure placenta
examination.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
Summary
Today we have discussed about examination of the placenta. Examination of the placenta is screening of the placenta for it
completeness to exclude if there is any this retained in the uterus. We mentioned the indications, the principals and requirement and I
demonstrated How to do an examination of the placenta.
