K-2 Week 1

Get Moving at the Beginning

Objective: Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students will participate in a


movement activity to warm their bodies up and get their brains ready for music
class.

Materials:
• Jack Hartmann (switch off for each class to mix things up)

Sequence:
1. Introduce what we’re going to do
2. Encourage students to stand up
3. Play video
4. Move along with video instructions and students

Assessment: If 80% of students have moved along to the song and look ready
to go, we are ready to move on to the next activity.

Listening Moods
Objective: Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students will listen to
approximately 15-30 seconds of each piece and determine its mood.

Sequence:
1. Introduce what we’re doing
1. We feel emotions, like happy and sad
2. Music can have emotions, too
2. Go through the emotions/moods we will be working with
1. What does each mean/look like (ex: show your happy face)
1. Happy vs Sad
2. Excited vs Angry
3. Tired vs Energetic
4. Serious vs Silly
5. Sorry vs Proud
3. Before each piece
1. Give the two options to listen for
2. Heads down to focus
4. Listen to 15-30 seconds of each piece
5. In between pieces
1. Which mood was it?
2. Show with you face
3. Action that goes with mood
