Assessment Report

Subject- Maths and English

Competency Finding - Average
Achievements.
 The student is disciplined, he seemed settled and calm, he appeared ready for the
assessment and was ready way ahead of the task. It is expected that he could have been
anxious since the assessment task was late, and was not familiar with the teacher.
 He seemed to have a generally good acceptable attitude to both subjects.
 The student understands and interprets questions fairly, he follows instructions and his
response to questions’ instructions is commendable. However, he has limited grasp of
spellings and tense use in sentences

Analytical skills
He appeared capable of analyzing language used in questions. He understood what some
questions were asking of him. He couldn’t, however, consistently apply logic in answering most
of them. I could notice that he could get started answering the questions but could get stuck
along the way, and could at times end up guessing the answers. He got the questions right after
guidance, an indicator to being a good learner with proper guidance and exposure to subject
content.

Formula application and grasp of concepts.

He seemed to have a problem in application of basic formulae. For others that he could recall, he
could not logically apply the formula all the way to a correct response. For example, in one of
the questions that expected of him to use the BODMAS concept, he did recognize that, but
failed to apply it correctly in the question ending up scoring a zero in a question that was well
within his ability.
He couldn’t figure out finding the area of a trapezium, indicating a possible major problem in
measurement. There is a need to have him exposed once more to content in Year 2 and 3, for
proper grounding in KS1 and lower KS2.
Focus and Keenness
I noted avoidable mistakes like subtraction, addition, multiplication and division. This is a
compulsory area to master if he has to score any decent marks in Maths. It may indicate to
possible gaps in his foundation Maths at Year 1 to 3. We may have to go back to basics including
but not limited to multiplication tables, ordering of numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages.

General comments
The student is generally able to do so much better if well guided. There is a huge potential in
him. His ability to understand questions is above average. However his interpretation and
response is a point of concern .He needs a lot of mentoring in both reading and writing so that he
improves.

Further Recommended Actions

1. Parent involvement in helping him take on homework assessment may help him to be
motivated to do better.
2. He should be guided to get keener on language use, on tenses and punctuation marks.
3. Independent Study. He needs to get organized and be encouraged to create a personal
study plan for Maths. This will help him to own up to solving the Maths problem.
4. He should be guided to learn to observe proper use of commas, tenses and other
grammatical errors.
5. Reading and writing practice exercises on weekly basis
6. Should be assessed in all papers on monthly basis
7. Should read a lot of books
8. Mentoring while teaching should be done on daily basis to help Danny to nurture his self-
belief, to guide him towards actualizing his and to achieve the best of his potential. He
should be guided to understand that he is not limited by his mild dyslexic condition;
rather that he is highly gifted because of it.
