Task Student uses math language to explain the problem.

Beginning 1-2 Used a few math terms in the explanation of the solution and the explanation was brief.

Developing 3-4 Used some math terms in the explanation of the solution and the explanation was adequate.

Student explanation demonstrates understanding of the problem. Student articulates plan for solving the problem.

Misinterpreted parts of the problem.

The plan for solving the problem is partially correct.

Solved the problem with minor interpretation errors. The plan for solving the problem is correct but may lead to minor errors. Part of the problem is solved correctly.

Student correctly solves the problem.

The answer is incorrect or not solved.

Advancing 5 Used math terms correctly throughout the explanation of the solution and the explanation was thorough and complete. Answer demonstrates complete understanding of the problem. The plan for solving the problem is accurate and will lead to a correct solution. The answer is correct and the work supports the answer. TOTAL POINTS
