Course code: CSE (EE3101) Time: 60 Mins

Course duration: E3Sum1 Max.Marks: 20

Note: This section consists of 6 questions; Answer any 4 Questions. Each question
carries equal marks. 4 x 5 =20

1. Determine the output due to pure disturbance, i.e due to the signal ‘D’ alone
for the system shown in Fig. 1. Suggest with a reason which one has to be
increased among G1, G2 and H to reduce this output due to pure disturbance.

2. Comment on the stability of the system described with the transfer function
10( s + 2)
s 5 + 2 s 4 + 3s 3 + 6 s 2 + 5 s + 3
Determine the number of right hand side poles on S-plane using R-H
criteria.

3. The characteristic equation of a system is s ( s + 3)( s + 7) + k ( s + 13) = 0 .

Find the value of k, such that the system has a pair of complex conjugate
poles whose real part is -1.
4.
a) Find the steady state error of the unity feedback system having

increased by one; find the error to a ramp input.
5. Derive the formulas for peak time and maximum peak overshoot for step
response of the standard 2nd order system; i.e. tp = π/ωd and

c(t ) = 1 − sin(ωd t + φ )
Hints:

Tan θ = Tan (π + θ)

6. Find the peak time tp and settling time ts to reach 2% tolerance band for the
system shown in Fig. 2 for step input. Draw the step response and determine
the approximate number of damped cycles before the system settles using
these tp and ts.
