Requirement
Provide safe and sanitary hand-washing and hand-drying supplies in all areas where handwashing is expected,
including signage on proper hand-washing technique.
Provide measures to reduce risk associated with contact with high-touch surfaces (doorknobs, elevator buttons,
handrails, faucet handles, etc.), such as hands-free operation, hand sanitizer stations, and designated door
attendants.
Develop and implement a detailed cleaning plan that includes cleaning schedule and responsibilities, clear
communication and record-keeping, feedback system, storage/labeling, and training. Plan must include
specifications for safe and efficient equipment as well as safe and non-hazardous cleaning products.
Provide clearly-communicated guidance and strategies to assist with social distancing and reduced person-to-
person contact, including floor markers in high-traffic areas, one-way foot traffic implementation,
screens/barriers, self-service systems where available, enforcement of face coverings, and other strategies to
allow for reduced respiratory particle exposure.
Develop detailed plans and policies in case of emergencies (fire, natural disaster, active shooter, health
emergencies, etc.). Plans should:
- Account for all necessary resources, training, and designated personnel;
- Take into account needs of vulnerable groups and provide employee assistance as appropriate (staff with
disabilities, children, the elderly, etc.);
- Include detailed equipment inventories, staff lists, and communication guidelines as needed;
- Include provisions for shelter-in-place and quarantine scenarios;
- Provide for business continuity in the event of an emergency (including identification of critical functions and
resources, remote work readiness, and key personnel);
- Provide for safe and healthy re-entry to the workplace after emergency is concluded (including contingency
plans and incorporation of relevant standard re-entry guidelines provided by government or other trusted
resources).
Provide sick leave, distinct from paid time off and family leave, both short-term (at least 10 days annually, paid
at 50% or more of regular wages) and long-term (at least 12 weeks annually, may be unpaid). Discourage
employees from reporting to work and/or performing work while they feel ill, and do not require a doctor's note
or advance notice for 3 or fewer days of sick leave. Support employees recovering from serious health
conditions with schedule and location flexibility.
Provide comprehensive and affordable health benefits to all eligible employees and their dependents, including
medical/dental/vision insurance, mental health and substance use services, sexual/reproductive healthcare,
medication/prescription coverage, preventive screenings, tobacco cessation programs, infections disease
testing during a regional or global outbreak, and essential immunization coverage. Provide confidential benefits
consultations with clearly identified and qualified support staff.
Offer free or subsidized mental health services to support recovery from a traumatic event, either on-site
(within a quarter mile) or virtually. Services should include referrals to qualified professionals, psychological first
aid training, bereavement counseling and resources, and information on relevant benefits coverage.
Provide annual flu vaccinations at no cost either on-site or via health insurance coverage/vouchers.
Communicate availability of vaccination to regular building occupants and provide education on benefits of the
vaccine.
Provide a smoke-free environment (including prohibition of e-cigarettes) in all indoor spaces and most outdoor
spaces. Post clear signage communicating the ban, and prohibit the sale, marketing, and promotion of tobacco
products within the space/building.
Have a qualified engineer perform a detailed assessment of the building's/space's ventilation system, including
the extent to which modifications to the system would affect energy consumption, thermal conditions, and
maintenance processes.
Provide inventory of all air filters and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) equipment currently in place.
Have a qualified engineer assess potential for filtration/UVGI improvements; then, provide a plan for installation
of recommended treatment systems, as well as ongoing maintenance reports (submitted annually) showing
that recommended systems have been installed.
Develop and implement a Legionella management plan that covers any devices or spaces where water is
recirculated and aerosolized. Plan should clearly define key roles, responsibilities, and personnel, and should
include a water system inventory, hazard analysis, list of monitoring actions, list of critical control points,
verification and validation procedures, and documentation protocols. On-going maintenance reports submitted
annually.
Perform annual air and water quality testing. For budgeting purposes, projects should expect to conduct at least
one test/floor.
Implement a moisture management plan to inspect regularly for signs of water damage/pooling, mold, and
water pipe leaks. Include a system for occupants to report issues to building management. Prepare and submit
annual on-going maintenance reports.
Establish a health-oriented mission that promotes health and connects occupant health to organizational
objectives. Develop and distribute a guide to all occupants that describes the space's/building's health features
and their impact on occupants and the organization. Communicate with occupants at least quarterly (via
emails, trainings, etc.) about the health resources and policies of the organization.
Share food inspection information with occupants by prominently displaying either of the following from a local
health department or other third-party inspection agency: (a) a score/letter grade, or (b) publicly available food
hygiene or sanitary inspection report.
