PAPER – IV BUSINESS ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT CODE: HC1E

Course Objective:

The objective of this course is intended to present students with a broad


introduction to the meaning of business organizations and different types of
organizations and their legal implications. Further this course provides basic
knowledge about the process of management in organizations and the dynamic world
of managers. After taking this course students should be able to understand and
explain how managers contribute to the productivity and performance of their
organizations, what managers do and the skills they must have to achieve high levels
of productivity, how managers plan, organize, direct, and control the work of others to
achieve organizational goals and objectives, and some of the reasons why managers
differ in their ability to produce effective results. The students should understand the
basic concepts in commerce, trade and industry. He will be exposed to modern
business world; Understand modern business practices, forms, procedures and
functioning of various business organizations. The purpose of this paper is to impart to
the students an understanding of business concepts with a view to prepare them to face
emerging challenge of managing business from legal point of view.

Organization – Sole Proprietorship, Partnership firms, Joint stock companies -their
features, relative merits, demerits & suitability - private sector, Cooperative sectors,
public sector, joint sector, Services sector.
UNIT II

Public Sector – Government Organizations – Local Governments – Clubs – Society –


Emergence of Indian MNCs & transnational corporations -Recent trends in business
world – Globalization & challenges for Indian Business in new millennium.

UNIT III

Concept of Management – Scope and functions and Principles of Management –


Evolution of Management Thought - Planning – Objectives – policy – procedure –
MBO – Organizing – meaning – importance – process – Span of management –
Centralization – Decentralization – Types of organization – Line, Staff – Line and
Staff.
UNIT IV

Staffing – nature – scope – selection – training –Direction – Co-ordination - Control –


process of control – Budgeting – Importance – Nature and Scope of Budgeting.

UNIT V

Corporate Governance – Changing Concepts of Business - Professionalization,


Business Ethics, Business and culture, Technological Development and Social
