When we talk about teaching-learning Spanish as a mother tongue, we must immediately refer to
the concept of a mother tongue known as the first language that a person learns in their first years
of life, which is used to communicate, in this specific case Spanish is our mother tongue.
Through the use of our mother tongue we support the communication processes that appear in
childhood, these processes have a direct connection with our culture, since language identifies
us, is part of our personality, our essence and for this reason it must be preserved and passed on
to future generations. As Colombians we must strive to safeguard our language, developing and
strengthening the teaching-learning processes in all educational centers with a high quality
standard, since early childhood is the basis for a future formation of our mother tongue.
On the other hand, one of the most important strategies to protect and safeguard our mother
tongue is to support, apply and develop all those projects that allow teachers a better preparation,
a more structured knowledge and total responsibility for the teaching processes developed in our
country so that they are fully complied with and their results are very successful.
As students in training and future teachers we must recognize the importance of studying and
analyzing in depth the level of importance of our mother tongue since if we do not explore the
different characteristics of our own language we will never be able to teach or guide our own
students in their own language. Academic preparation, likewise teaching and learning a language
is not based only on achieving communication between people but also transmitting our customs,
traditions and roots that must never disappear since it’s our identity.
