Abstract

Amidst noise of entertainment in a city, gays and transgenders who are

crossdressers are subject of ashamed and self-objectification.

The current study aimed to raise awareness through a correlational design in

determining the frequency level of self-objectification and frequency level of self-

esteem among crossdressers.

Series of questionnaires and scale were administered to 50 crossdressers

within Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City to measure the frequency of the respondents

levels of self-objectification and self-esteem.

The scales used were a 10- item Rosenberg Scale and a 5-item Objectified

Body Conciousness Scale. Results gathered that there is moderately low correlation

between self-esteem and self-objectification (r=0.49).

In conclusion, crossdressing resulted to the low relationship of self-

objectification and self-esteem. Crossdressers would become more conscious about

themselves but they crossdressed as a comfort or their style.
