Soundtheory Gullfoss Installation Instructions

1. Requirements
• macOS 10.9 or greater, Windows 7 or greater
• An Intel-compatible processor not older than 2008 and with support for
SSE3
• An internet connection for activation
• A 64 bit plug-in host with support for AU, VST, VST3 or AAX Native
• A sample rate between 16kHz and 192kHz
• iLok License Manager for activation

2. Copy protection
New sales of Gullfoss generally use the PACE iLok copy protection mecha-
nism. If you are an existing customer who is still using the Soundtheory copy
protection, please consider switching to the PACE iLok copy protection. You
will gain additional flexibility through the use of machine-based activations,
dongle-based activations and iLok Cloud activations. Please contact support at
http://www.soundtheory.com if you wish to make this change.

2.1. PACE iLok copy protection (macOS and Windows)

If you would like to activate Gullfoss on a dongle, you need a 2nd generation
iLok or newer.

2.1.1. Installation
Please install the latest iLok support software found at http://www.ilok.com and
activate Gullfoss on either your machine, one of your iLok dongles or iLok Cloud.
Once you have received an activation code from Soundtheory, you can redeem it
from within the iLok License Manager by selecting “Redeem Activation Code”
from the “Licenses” menu in the main menu.
Run the Gullfoss installer and select the plug-in formats you would like to use.
Gullfoss should be ready to use in your DAW.

2.1.2. Deinstallation
On macOS you may deinstall the iLok versions of the Gullfoss plug-ins by
manually removing the plug-in files from their installation location. The default
locations are:
• AU: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Gullfoss.component
• VST: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/Gullfoss.vst
• VST3: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Gullfoss.vst3
• AAX: /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/Gullfoss.aaxplugin

1
On Windows you simply run the uninstaller that can be found in the ‘Add or
remove programs’ system settings.

2.2. Soundtheory copy protection (macOS-only)

You can install and authorize Gullfoss on several local user accounts and on
different machines. By default, you will find two machine activations and three
cloud activations available in your account.
A machine activation allows you to run the plug-in without any connection to
the internet, but it does require initial activation over an internet connection.
Cloud activations require an internet connection while the plug-in is running and
are limited to a certain number of concurrent sessions. By default, a maximum
of one cloud session is allowed per user license at all times.

2.2.1. Installation
Gullfoss comes with an installation package containing everything required to
run the plug-in in a compatible host application.
To install Gullfoss, mount the DMG file by double clicking it. Accept the license
agreement to get to the content of the disk image. There, start the installation by
double clicking the installer package. You will be guided through the installation
process. You will be prompted for administrator privileges in order to complete
the installation.
If the installation goes wrong, please contact us. The plug-in files will be installed
globally on your machine, that means they will be copied to /Library/Audio/Plug-
Ins/ instead of the user-local directory ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/. The installer
will attempt to remove previous versions of the plug-in that have been installed
to the local plug-in directory. If you are installing from a user account that is
different from the account used to run the plug-in, please remove the old plug-in
files from the local user directory manually. If you need assistance with this,
please let us know.

2.2.2. Deinstallation
Soundtheory provides an uninstall script located at /Library/Application Sup-
port/Soundtheory/uninstall. Running this script will remove all installed files,
including the license activations. Licenses will be properly deactivated so that
they can be used again later.
