Competency 3

It is important for the organization and its departments to function as one and be united in

order to achieve its objectives. However, an organization does not exist without challenges.

Challenges can either be the deal breaker or be the one to actually help the organization grow.

Organizations deal with many problems some are smaller than others but yet still cause the same

damage.

One main issue I’ve seen and dealt with in my organization is the lack of communication.

Communication is a core part of the human experience. And yet, we still struggle with it. At my

organization there are two of us who work in the front office while we have our other two office

managers. They are the ones who provide us with assignments and instructions on a daily basis.

We’ve recently have noticed that our work skills have been failing due to the lack of

communication, whether it a simple message we forgot to rely to management or a simple

message we forgot to share with one another. Either or they have led us to fail in our

organization. Despite the harm of communication technology, under-communication remains a

huge challenge at work. It prevents organizations, and employees, from reaching their full

potential. There was a survey a few years back on top three reasons why people don’t like their

jobs and one of those reason was communication related. The three main communications that

need to take action in an organization are; communication from company to employees,

communication from employees to company and communication to employees and other people.

When you’re able to communicate those three types in an organization communication won’t be

an issue in your business. In order to fix a communication issue we first have to understand what

is going on, we need to assess the audience and current state to identify the main issue. This is

involving a type of communication measurement tool, or a method to guide you to your solution.

2
To help fix a communication issue we have to highlight key issues and pinpoint critical areas of

action. We need to be able to understand that attitude that exist and the extent of communications

breakdowns, which highlight the issues that need to be solved. Advanced statistics help us know

where to start to have the most impact or improve a certain outcome. This allows organizations

to target the most critical areas to address whether it’s a specific attribute such as timeliness or

completeness, or an opportunity such as how supervisors communicate. Making smart decisions

also help with communication. Documenting can help leaders understand how and why you’re

making smarter decisions that will help achieve your organization and communication outcomes.

Demonstrate commitment to change, make sure you are serious about improving your

communication. Your act in measure can symbol change and will be valued by your employees.

Communication measurement is an excellent way to assess where communication works and

where work needs to be made within an organization and can help you gets on the right track to

more effectively connect with and engage employees.

Communication comes down as a result of many communication barriers that may be

attributed to the sender or receiver in an organization. Therefore, effective communication

requires awareness with the organization. Choosing the right type of communication is also

important, because choosing the wrong medium undermines the message. Communication is

definitely one of the main keys.
