This document contains solutions to three heat transfer problems:
1) It calculates the heat loss from a fin of given dimensions using the fin equation.
2) It calculates the heat transfer coefficient for a plate with given temperatures at its surfaces using the conduction equation.
3) It sets up an energy balance equation to calculate the exit temperature of hot fluid after heat exchange with cold fluid through a heat exchanger surface, given the mass flow rates and various thermal properties.

Given : T1 = 30c C , T2 = 100c C , k = 1.0 W/mK , T = 30 + 70 exp (− y) ...(i)
Under steady state conditions,
Heat transfer by conduction= Heat transfer by convection − kA dT = hAΔT A " Area of plate dy − kA d (30 + 70e−y) = hAΔT dy Solving above equation, we get − kA (− 70e−y) = hAΔT At the surface of plate, y = 0 Hence 70kA = hAΔT
h = 70kA = 70k = 70 # 1 = 1 W/m2 K
AΔT ΔT (100 − 30)
SOL 7.11 Option (B) is correct.
