Section A1

The videos we have been shown gave us a detailed background and the history of assembly line
revolution. Every industry now has shifted to assembly line. So starting from the first ever way of
production as stated in the video was just using the stones and wood. The first wheel was made out of
stone and the earlier homes were made of wood, straws and mud and this was all done by hand.
Similarly the production at factories done was entirely by hands and no machinery was involved at all.
Then after some time tools were introduced for human ease which were then used in production and
which made it little effective and easier for the production process. Then came the idea of
interchangeable parts which meant that parts used for one production process can be used for other
production process. This was start of revolution where production started to move to the concept of
interchangeable parts. Those parts were manufactured then that could be used in other production as
well. So this concept lasted for many years and this is what eventually lead to assembly line revolution.
Production gradually shifted to assembly line production as we saw the example of the Ford Company
where Mr. Henry Ford made almost 15 million ford cars of T series using assembly line. Similarly many
other industries at that time used assembly line and this was very effective because it helped achieve
economies of scales where costs fell down and this cost advantage was given to customers. Ford along
with the concept of assembly line which was being used at that time came up with the conveyor belt
concept which completely changed the dynamics of production. This is how assembly line was
introduced and now it is being used everywhere at very large scale level be it vacuum cleaners or be it
automobiles and every other thing.
