Your Classroom

The aim of this artifact assignment was to create a model of the typical classroom in
the grade level I want to teach, (which is second grade). The greatest challenge in this
assignment was definitely creating minor details like chairs or text inserts for the desk
name labels. Since those details were so small, I magnified the image to 100% and
adjusted each piece until it aligned symmetrically with the others. Another challenge of
this assignment was the creation of the doorway using the arc feature. I had to adjust
every piece in the layering process until it was perfect. With that being said, I believe I
have mastered the skill of layering and shading. All of the seats have the same exact
filling, and all of the furniture that would generally be overlapped in real life are layered
as such.

The specific standard I feel is being met by completing the project is standard 4b:
"Students know and use a deliberate design process for generating ideas, testing
theories, creating innovative artifacts or solving authentic problems" This assignment
capitalizes on creating a safe, innovative, and successful space for learning.

This project is truly beneficial for teachers, as seating and classroom arrangements are
crucial to the learning process of students. However, the creation of this model can
also extend to other areas of the curriculum and still prove to be beneficial in other
ways. For example, with younger students, a model like this one can be recreated into
a map that displays work stations or sites of precious, hidden learning material. It can
also be recreated into an outline of the set of a play. I think that exercising the skill of
manipulating objects on screen, like this assignment has shown, will allow teachers to
quickly and effectively display or group items and people together, and clearly explain
related ideas so that students completely understand. This skill allows teachers to
explain concepts in simple, uncomplicated manner.
