Everyday we are exposed to data and information, in both numerical
and non-numerical forms.
We take risks and ask questions about this data and information.
We are then able to interpret, recognize patterns and create meaning
from the data to identify problems.
We draw on the skills and knowledge learned in school to come up with
solutions.
Problem solving is a personal thing that is influenced by our
backgrounds and past and current experiences.
But there is no one solution to the problems we face.
We explore alternative solutions by engaging in dialogue, listening and
trying different strategies.
And we use our data and insights to reason and justify our ideas.
As we figure out ways to go from what we know and where we are to
where we want to be.
And as the information and ideas change, we adapt with it.
Math invites students, of any age, to
interact with the data around us and be
problem solvers in our communities,
country, and world.
