AIRLIFT

FAST & RELIABLE DAILY COMMUTE

Airlift is a Pakistani app-based decentralized urban mass transit startup that

allows customers to book fixed rate rides on buses and vans in their network

The idea of Airlift was conceived by the founding Chief Executive Usman Gul after
he experienced the congestion during his visit to Lahore for vacations which was
caused by the inefficiency of local transportation.
In March 2019, CEO Usman Gul along with a small team founded the Airlift and
launched its operations with a pilot project in Lahore. Gul initially self-funded the
startup using US$ 50,000.
As of July 2019, the company was operating in two Pakistani cities, Karachi and
Lahore. In August 2019, Airlift raised $2.2 million in seed funding from local and
international institutions.
According to a report, Airlift did 50,000 riders in Lahore in less than five months of
its operations. In November 2019, the company raised series A funding of
whooping 12$ million from an American venture capitalist firm which funded
uber in its seed funding.
REVOLUTIONISING THE TRANSIT SYSTEM.
"About 20% of the market uses Careem and Uber, and 20% uses Bykea; we’ve
tapped into the remaining 60%. In addition, by accessing remote areas and
bringing them in the fold of a mass transit system, we compliment the
government.”
Forty-seven percent of Airlift’s users are women commuters. Additionally, they
plan to introduce an ‘Airlift Pink’, a separate bus for women commuters only. But
despite its layered safety checks, women commuters say there are always some
routes that have more women users and some with less.
FOUNDATION QUESTIONS

 Why we need Airlift?

 How was it implemented?
 What are the main challenges?
 How could airlift be the solution to mass transit problems?

CHEAPER:
Through direct experience, our team at Airlift has experienced the challenges
associated with daily commutes within the city. Rickshaws tend to be unreliable
and expensive and car companies are prohibitively expensive. Airlift offers a
unique opportunity that enables you to commute within the city at your
convenience, in comfort and at affordable prices.

QUICKER:
Commutes using the Airlift Application are quick you’ll be able to navigate
through the city to your drop-off point, in the most effective and efficient manner
possible. Your commute time shall roughly be the same as it would be if you were
to go on your own car.

RELIABLE:
Save in exceptional circumstances, with Airlift you’ll always reach your drop-off
point, no matter what.

COMPETITORS OF AIRLIFT

The City of Karachi lacks a proper mass transit system. This is evident when you
see the millions of residents in the city trying to reach their destinations facing a
constant daily struggle. To combat this dilemma entered Careem a few years
back, shortly followed by Uber and Bykea in Pakistan.
There are so many companies in all around the world with this transportation
concept like:
• BlaBlaCar
• Bolt
• Careem
• DiDi
• Fasten
• Free Now
• Gett
• Gojek
• Grab
• KakaoTaxi
• Lyft
• Ola Cabs
• Snapp
• Swvl
• Turo
• Uber
• Via
• Wingly
• Yourdrive
• Pathao
• Yandex.Taxi

But in Pakistan for mass transit Swvl is giving same services with highly convenient
and easy on the pocket. It is highly similar in functionality and will surely
transform the mass transit system throughout the major cities in Pakistan.
Offering Massive Competition to Bykea, Careem & Uber
People highly recommend using these services more often, especially when you
want to go to your universities or offices. They can’t entirely replace Bykea or
Careem/Uber but are a welcome addition in the category.
As they say competition breeds innovation. Maybe, we might see Careem launch
a Bus category in its app. Who knows?
