THE GIFT OF SERVICE

God’s Spirit lives in my heart. He has called me and set me apart.

This is what I have to do, what I have to do.

Ref.: He sent me to give the Good News to the poor.

Tell prisoners that they are prisoners no more.
Tell blind people that can see. And set the downtrodden free.
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom of God has come.
And go tell everyone the news that the Kingdom has come.

Just as the Father sent me. So I’m sending you out to be,
My witnesses throughout the world, the whole of the world.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Good Samaritan, sent by the Father

Anointed by the Spirit
to cure the sick and to announce
the good news of salvation,
we thank you for having made us part
of your salvific mission.

We present to you today, Lord Jesus, our Camillian Family,

Born of the Spirit, in the Church.
Renew its fidelity to the Gospel of Mercy
and its vocation of service
in the Spirit of St. Camillus.
Make it strong and trusting in the face of adversity,
generous and creative in love,
persevering in its work.

Even today, O Lord, we say to you:

Here I am, send me.
Enliven our desires to serve you
in our sick brothers and sisters.
Make us a living sign of you love
for the most needy in our society.

Help us, Lord, to aspire to the greatest thing (1 Cor 12:13)

to spread it generously.
Make us real instruments
in the distribution of the gifts of the Spirit
and welcoming of those who are called to this family.
You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen
Reading for the Gospel of John (1 Jn. 35-42)

The First Disciples of Jesus

The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by,
he exclaimed, look, Here is the Lamb of God! The two disciples heard him say this, and they
followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, ‘What are you looking
for ? They said to him, Rabbi’ (Which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying? He said
to them, ‘Come and see. They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him
that day. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon. One of the two who heard John speak and
followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his brother Simon and said to
him, ‘We have found the Messiah’(which is translated Anointed). He brought Simon to Jesus, who
looked at him and said, You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas (which is translated
Peter).

A short period of reflection

Invocations
We pray to God, the Father of goodness, that following the example of St. Camillus, we may be
effective ministers of the sick. Let our prayer be: Father, hear our prayer.

Father, through your Spirit, you have given us the charism of mercy so that we may continue in the
world, the mission of Christ, the good Samaritan. Grant us a heart like that of Camillus, a heart that
is ever ready to love and serve no matter what the consequeces:
Father, hear our prayer

You call and watch over us with the eyes of a Father, help us to love with all our heart and to do
with all our strength our ministry to the sick.
Father, hear our prayer

You have given your Son as the motive and model of our Camillian vocation, help us to assume his
feelings and his attitudes. Give us a love that is free and creative like his own, a love that is
merciful and sensitive to all the needs of the sick.
Father, hear our prayer

You want all men and women to be saved and come to fulfillment. Make us effective instruments
of your salvific will and of your healing presence.
Father, hear our prayer

You always call workers into your vineyard. Send new vocations to our Order and protect those
who have answered your call.
Father, hear our prayer

God our Father, you have called us to be witnesses to the love of your Son of the sick. We thank
you because you love us and sustain the light that you have lit in us. Make us your faithful
ministers and promoters of life and health. Make our religious family a sign of your love, sensitive
to the needs of the world of health, creative in its response, humble in its service and one with all
men and women of good will. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
