2 Managing Digital Tools and Resources - effectively manage digital tools and resources within the
context of student learning experiences.
______________________________________________________________________________

The Google Classroom that I manage, maintain, and share with students for virtual learning provides
quick access to assignments and resources in an organized way that enhances the student learning
experience. This shared space hosts digital learning tutorials, lesson guides, projects, assignments, and
assessments. Students have access to everything they need to be successful in the virtual learning sone
place in our Google Classroom.
Our Google Classroom demonstrates my ability to effectively manage digital tools and resources
within the context of student learning experiences. Our digital space includes a daily schedule with an
outline to guide learners through their instructional day whether, asynchronous or synchronous. We
begin with the morning announcements and school YouTube Link followed by all content and aligned
digital tools and resources needed to complete assignments for each day. Students can even access
recorded lessons for future viewing if necessary. The simplicity of the outline supports the navigation of
even the most novice Google Classroom users. As I learned about universal design in ITEC 7445, I
realized how much design elements, such as color and fonts, contribute to digital content. This inspired
me to use kid friendly, yet readable fonts along with images to accompany text as often as possible. I
shared this outline with colleagues, and it has become a resource for others as they organize and
manage their digital learning spaces.
In creating and maintaining the Google Classroom, I have learned that the best way to support
access to digital tools and resources is to gather information in a central place that is well known and
easily accessible by learners. My school has a large digital resource bank but personalizing our Google
Classroom LMS to accommodate these resources along with virtual learning has been a major support
for students and teachers as we journey in complete virtual learning. The service that I provided by
creating a “model classroom” supports the effective inclusion of digital tools and resources into teaching
and learning. To improve this implementation, I plan to create a primary version and share with my K-2
colleagues and professional learning network.
The Personalized Google Classroom has positively impacted student learning. The level of teacher
intervention required for navigation to engage in virtual learning has decreased and the level of student
participation has increased. The impact can be evidenced by usage reports as well as the impact on staff
development. The model was shared through a tutorial and how-to virtual learning session with 3rd-5th
grade teachers. To date, all 3rd-5th grade teachers have adopted the model as a support for creating and
managing a digital learning space to enhance the student learning experience.
