Major Religions of the World: 300-1500 CE

10th Grade

Purpose:

This formative assessment is designed to give the students and the teacher information
regarding the students’ mastery over the characteristics of the major world religions during 300
to 1500 CE, as well as review their map-reading skills from the previous unit. Students will
complete three different tasks to show knowledge of the content. They will answer ten multiple
choice questions, five true or false questions, and five matching questions. After completing the
assessment, the teacher will review the results with the students, so that the students know their
own mastery level. Students will then be given the opportunity to review their assessment,
marking which questions they answered incorrectly and which learning targets they struggled on.
This will help both the student and the teacher see if they are ready to move onto the next unit
about the interactions between the major world religions during 300 to 1500 CE.

Standards:

WHS 4.1.2 Using historical and modern maps and documents, analyze the continuing spread
of major world religions during this era and describe the encounters between

and the Crusades

Major Religions 300-1500 CE

Directions:

Now that we have discussed the identifying characteristics and beliefs of the major world
religions in this era, we can begin talking about their interactions with each other. In order to do
so, we need to check how well you know those identifying characteristics and beliefs. After
finishing this assessment, you will have the opportunity to go back through and see what
questions you missed so that you better understand your own knowledge of this material. This
will also let me know what we need to review before we move on to the next unit.

This assessment is 20 questions: 10 multiple choice, 5 true or false, and 5 matching

questions. Each question is worth one point.

● You will write the letter that best suits your answer in the blank next to the
question for each multiple choice question.
● You will write true or false in the black next to each statement for each true or
false question. For extra credit, you may correct a false statement.
● You will draw a clear line between the matching statements for the matching
questions.

When you answer a question, mark whether you are sure or unsure of your answer. This
will be helpful when you go back through the assessment to see what you need to review before
moving on. Please answer the unsure/sure question honestly, you will not be marked down for
being unsure of an answer.

You will have the entire class period of 50 minutes to complete this assessment. Before
you start, double check that you have written your name and the date on the top of this page.
Take your time and do your best. If you have a question, please raise your hand and I will come
help you as best I can. Remember to read the entire question carefully before marking your
answer.

When you finish this assessment, turn it over and leave it on your desk. I will come
around and collect them. You may take out other work once I collect your assessment, but please
remain quiet so that others can finish their assessment.

You may begin this assessment. Take your time, and good luck!
