MSC ADAMS(Automated Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems ) View

Walkthrough

Workflow
1. Go to File>Import(Import Parasolid file x.t preferable)
2. Types of Parts-
Adams/View provides three different types of parts that one can create:
– Rigid Bodies
– Flexible Bodies - Basic Adams/View provides the ability to create discrete flexible links.
For more functionality, Adams/Flex must be used.
– Point Masses
3. ADAMS solver provides users with options to input material density or material type
(steel, aluminum, etc.) for each part, in which case it uses the geometry information to
calculate the masses, inertia tensor components & location of center of mass
4. Bodies:
● Solids: Box, Cylinder, Sphere, Torus, Link, Plate(Using this command you can
create a body )
● Booleans: Unite two solids into one, Merge two solids into one part, Intersect,
Cut out one solid with other two solids (This Command is used to perform these
mentioned boolean operations on a solid body which is imported)
● Flexible Bodies:
-Adams Flex- Import a flexible body(.mnf)
-Discrete Flexible link
-Create a FE part -intended for beam or rod applications.
- Rigid to Flex
(The ViewFlex module in Adams View enables users to transform a rigid part to an
MNF-based flexible body within the Adams environment using embedded finite element
analysis where a meshing step and linear modes analysis will be performed.)

5. Connectors:
● Joints: fix joint, Revolute, Translational, Cylindrical, Spherical (This joint is
applied between one part w.r to other)
6. Motion:
● Joint Motion: Translational motion (applicable to Translational and Cylindrical
joint), Rotational Motion (applicable to revolute and Cylindrical joint).
● General Motion: Point motion (in one direction) and General point motion (in all
directions)

7. Forces:
● Applied Force: Single component force, 3 component force, 6 component force
Vector, Single-component Torque, 3 component Torque Vector.
● Flexible Force: Translational Spring Damper, Rotational Spring Damper,
Rotational Spring damper,
● Special Forces:
- Create a contact: This force maintains or creates contact Between two Solids,
curve, edge.
- Create Gravity: Specify the direction(+/- x,y,z) and Magnitude
- Create a tire
- Create a modal force
-Create a FE load: This Load is Applied to FE part which has been created in the
flexible bodies
8. Elements:
● Data Elements: Build 2D or 3D spline element, Create Adams curve

9. Design Exploration:

10. Plugins: Controls, Vibration, Durability, Mechatronics, MSC Co-Simulation

11. Machinery:
● Gear: Create a gear Pair(Spur, Helical, rack, Worm, Bevel, Hypoid), Create a
Planetary gear set
● Belt: Create Pulley, belt and give desired actuation input
● Chain: Create Closed Loop Sprocket, close Chain and actuate the input to one
Sprocket
● Bearing: Create Bearing(Radial and radial Thrust)
● Cable
● Motor: create AC, DC, Brushless, Stepper motor
● Cam and Follower: Create Cam profile, create follower motion, create a cam
system
12. Simulation:
● Simulate-: Run Interactive Simulation. Always check the box Reset Before
Running Adjust End TIme and steps accordingly.

13. Result:
● PostProcessor: Use ADAMS/PostProcessor to manipulate, review, and refine
the results of the model you simulated. You Have to Add Curves of whichever
parameter you need to analyze
