Our Future

In my TV programme I’m going to be discussing the future due to coronavirus practically

taking over the world. I believe that this topic is extremely relevant for my target audience
as their future will be heavily affected by the pandemic and what that economy have gone
through. During this production I want to highlight certain topics, for instance furlough and
discuss the possible outcomes to get the economy back on track. Obviously, these outcomes
may not be best suited for 16 to 22-year-olds and therefore could affect their pension when
they are 60 or could even affect them now with university loans.

My main aim is to create a broader understanding of the possible future which may be
among us and how it could affect our ways of life. This may mean young adults need to be
more careful with their money now to enable them to have the best and brightest future
possible. Or, could coronavirus be a blessing in disguise as currently house prices are
excruciatingly high, but due to the massive crash will they become considerably lower?

I want to produce this type of production as a large range of 16 to 22-year-olds are

extremely immature. I use the word ‘immature’ to describe this age group as they tend to
focus more on Xbox or Instagram posts, rather than the news. As a young adult I can vouch
for this statement, not mentioning the research which I gathered clearly stating so. This
means, unlike older age groups they are less likely to know the underlying facts surrounding
coronavirus. Yet, due to coronavirus being one of the biggest things discussed all over the
world currently, not mentioning it being a huge part in history it is crucial that young adults
understand the type of pandemic they are living through. Therefore, throughout my
production I aim to educate young adults through the most exciting and interesting way
possible.

The deadline for my production is Friday, the 22nd of January 2021. Although this may
sound a while away, I do have a vast range to do. For instance, planning, editing, filming and
making sure these all done to the best of my abilities. Thankfully, at the start of this unit I
had written a neat timetable laying out what needs to be done and when, this means I am
able to go at my own pace to complete work and ensure they are done on time.

My target audience is 16 to 22-year-olds and therefore are classed as young adults. I believe
that this audience is personally the easiest to approach due to myself fitting within the age
range. This is helpful as I am able to evaluate my work and understand what needs to be
completed to ensure it is a production, young adults would like to watch. Another helpful
aspect to being within this age group is that it is very easy to collect responses for surveys or
gather together a focus group, as in past productions these aspects were difficult to
complete.

Throughout my research I have collected data which shows that 16 to 22 year olds enjoy
action and movement. Therefore, it is crucial that I include a range of interviews which can
be edited to create Vox pops. This ensures a large range of information is gathered together
and given to the audience in an exciting way through a variety of voices and backgrounds.
From the past couple of weeks, I have realised just how important B-roll is and how it can
make a dull production suddenly become so much more exciting. Due to this, I want to
make sure I collect a variety of B-roll to add and gain life to my production. I also have
collected responses from my target audience through surveys, here I have found out that
music is practically essential. Music allows there to be character and emotion which
instantly creates a better production and therefore will be included.

Through a range of research I'm aware that 16 to 22 year olds prefer to watch a reality TV
show than a documentary, I am aware that every young adult is different and has separate
preferences but I'm talking generally. Although after stating this rather important fact I'm
still going to continue to create a documentary, although to make it appealing to my target
audience I am going to take an investigation approach. I plan to do this through a variety of
short interviews, as well as a moving camera. This means I want there to be more
movement and therefore when filming my production I will try to take the camera off a
tripod as much as possible.

Preferably in an ideal world I would like the production to be aired on the BBC. The reason
for this is because the BBC is seen as one of the most prestige and best TV stations in this
day and age. Although, due to my target audience being young adults I'm aware that the
BBC doesn't approach this age group massively. Therefore, I believe for this type of
production it would be best suited aon ITV, this is because ITV display an array of TV
programmes including Reality TV shows which are very popular amongst the generation I'm
targeting. So, by airing on ITV I am more likely to approach the target audience I want.
