A small African Pygmy hedgehog wakes up in a tiny iron cage. Its handlers place it into
another small box to be poked and prodded for hours. A daily occurnace at Indy’s new Kawaii
Hedgehog Café.
The Kawaii Hedgehog Café is opening next month, Thursday Oct. 15, to the dismay of
several animal rights groups. Animal welfare activists are concerned that the animals are being
mistreated. President Adam Silver of The Humane Society of the United States, Adam Silver
said “There’s precedent here; we have seen it with owl eateries and cat cafés and what we’re
seeing is the animals really aren’t getting the treatment or care they deserve.”
